112: Keyboard shortcuts - 'Flip objects' and 'Respell accidentals' missing after upgrade (Windows only)

In some circumstances, after updating to Sibelius v1.4, a couple of keyboard shortcuts become unassigned: namely, X to flip objects, and Return (on the main keyboard) to respell accidentals.

To restore the X shortcut, choose Help > Keyboard Shortcuts and click New to create a new shortcut. Find Flip in the list of functions, and assign the keypress X to this function, then click OK.

Note that it is not possible to restore the Return shortcut from within Sibelius. To restore this shortcut, you will need to reset all shortcuts back to their defaults. First, choose Help > Keyboard Shortcuts, click New and assign any keypress to any unused function. The process of defining a new user shortcut creates some vital Registry entries which must next be removed to reset all the shortcuts.

To reset keyboard shortcuts to their defaults:

  • Quit Sibelius, if it's running.
  • Go to Start > Run and type regedit. Hit Return to launch the Registry Editor
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Sibelius Software/Sibelius
  • Select the Keyboard Shortcuts folder in the left-hand list, and then hit the Delete key to remove it
  • Close the Registry Editor
  • Now use Windows Explorer or My Computer to go to C:/Program Files/Sibelius Software/Sibelius/Resources
  • Delete the file called Sibelius.key
  • Now restart Sibelius; all your keyboard shortcuts are now reset to their defaults.

Please be advised that we do not accept any liability for any loss of data or system instability caused by editing your Windows Registry. We recommend that you back up your Registry (the files user.dat and system.dat in C:WindowsSystem) before making any changes to these settings. If you are concerned about editing the Registry, please call Sibelius technical support, who will be happy to talk you through the procedure.
