553: Sibelius 5 installer stops with 'Fatal error. The installation ended prematurely due to an error' on Windows Vista

Problem

During the installation of Sibelius 5.1 or Sibelius 5.2 on Windows Vista the following error message may appear, which stops Sibelius 5 being installed:

Fatal error.
The installation ended prematurely due to an error

This is due to a required dll on the system not being registered properly.

Solution

To work around this there is an installation assistant that will install Sibelius 5.1 or Sibelius 5.2:

• If Sibelius 5.0 is installed, please uninstall it by going to Start, Control Panel and double click Programs and Features.
• Choose Sibelius 5 from the list and click Uninstall at the top.
• Insert your Sibelius 5.1 or Sibelius 5.2 DVD into the DVD drive.
• Download the installation assistant onto your Desktop and double click the VistaInstallerAssistant.exe.
• Follow the on screen instructions and click OK.

Sibelius 5.1 or Sibelius 5.2 will then be installed. It should notify you if it was successful or not. If it was not successful please tick Show me the log. Email this to technical help and we will have a look through it here.

NOTE:

This assistant will only work with the DVD of Sibelius 5 so if you are having a problem with the downloaded Sibelius 5.x update you should instead request a Sibelius 5.2.5 DVD.
