Printing parts on 11 x 17 paper
Posted by John S Yao - MacBook Pro 2.4ghz - 01 May 06:12PM
What's the best way to print parts on 11 x 17? Can anyone recommend the best Document settings for this?

For parts, I'd like to have 2 pages side by side (so I don't have to tape as many pages). How do I set up Sibelius to do this?

Thanks,

The "Document Setup" settings remain unchanged, at "Letter" size.
The only change is in the options for the "Print" menu:
- click "Page setup" and choose 11x17, Landscape;
- then choose "Spreads", or "Booklet" (if the printer can do double-sided).

Alternatively, just export the Letter-sized score to PDF, and use a PDF printing application to do your chosen imposition.

Thanks Robin. I tried what you suggested and it puts a the 1st page on the right hand side of the 11 x 17 page only. So there's a big empty spot (where I'd like page 1 to be) on the left hand side of the 11 x 17 page. How can I resolve this?

Hi John,

To be honest, I spent some time experimenting until I achieved exactly what I wanted. This meant me printing off about 6 sheets of deadwood 'til I got there, finally.

I can send you some more screenshots if you think they might help!

Thanks for sharing this Paul. Maybe it's a printer specific thing. Looks like it from the screenshot you sent.

Hi John, Yes, very possibly. Actually though, the settings Hewlett Packard gave me did not produce the desired results and so I seeked help on here (I think it was Mike who responded as he may have the same printer as myself). Good luck.

Okay thanks. So maybe I need to post another thread about printer settings for 11x17?

Are you aware that there's two approaches which can be applied: one is exporting all of the parts as PDFs from the File tab, then you print out the parts from the export destination using Adobe or whatever. Alternatively, you can print directly from within Sibelius, again I think from the File tab. I know Mike uses this method - however I have never done so.

If you post a thread specifically relating to your printer and it's settings then you might want to include "OT" (off topic) in the subject field just so that members are aware of it's 'relevance' factor. I was advised to follow this protocol five or six years ago.

Otherwise, you could instead post your question on a different forum - such as the manufacturer of your printer! I have done this many times.

If it's only a 2 page spread, do a page number change in your part so the first page is page 2. Right hand pages (recto) are always odd numbers, and left hand pages (verso) are always even when printing. So if you have it with the default page numbers, page 1 will print on the right half of an 11x17, and page 2 will print on the next page. Changing page one to be "page 2" will print page 2 on the left and page 3 on the right.
