For me, the size adjustable keyboard has proved very useful.
When entering a note onto a stave, from the keypad, using the mouse, is there any way that the note can be made more visible (to assist placement)? Thanks

You mean the way the note appears as a 'ghost' until it's placed? No, I don't think we have any choice about that. You can turn off 'Show shadow note' completely in Preferences/Note Input, but that's the opposite of what you want!
