Changing Intel to M1
Posted by Juha Lehmus - 17 Nov 10:26AM
Hi, I'm finally "ready" to change my 2013 iMac to a new iMac with M1 chip. Now a days it supposed to be quite easy to do. I only have one question after reading some "activating to an other device". Should I deactivate Sibelius from my old iMac before I transfer the files and programs to new iMac?

Juha

You must ALWAYS de-activate Sibelius before using any cloning tool such as Apple Migration Assistant.

Thanks Robin, that was I assumed (kind of read), but just made sure because never used (not of course) the Apple Migration Assistant. Any knowledge if Rosetta gets Neuration photoscore Ultimate working in M1 iMac or does it work anyway?
Ps. Thank you for sending me the midi keyboard "think". For unknown reason the playback works now perfectly. Any other known cases (not working midi keyboard?)

You will need PhotoScore version 2020.1.14 or later for use on macOS Catalina or more recent.

Is Mac a preference or a necessity? If the former, you really should ask yourself ‘why?’

Thank you Laurence for your concern but during 15 years (now going to have the third device) have a lot of Mac programs and 150 Gt of iCloud in use not to talk about Logic Pro I’m using too so I’m going to stay in Mac 😊 My mobile devices are also the same "family" and I have over 10 years experience (not so good) of Windows at my work. Maybe it’s me not the Windows.

From time to time, Laurence likes to re-ignite the mac vs. windows war. This is fine as long as shrapnel and unexploded missiles are not allowed to stray across the border into Poland...

I try to restrain myself, but when I’m reminded of the obstacles Apple keep throwing in the path of Sibelius users, I sometimes can’t …

It is a fact that you can run at least as far back as Sibelius 5 in current versions of Windows, but in current Mac OSes, you can't run Sib 5, 6, 7, 7.5, 8, and a fair number of Ultimates because of changes made to the OS.

I think that is the point Laurence was making, rather than starting a flame war. Microsoft is a lot better than Apple at keeping older versions of software running in its OSes.

I get the point, but I also want to use the newest Sib. version possible. Don’t care if I can’t use sib. 5. Maybe someone wants to and then Windows is the right system to choose 👍
