Need some help typing in a chord
Posted by Billy Dreskin - 18 Jan 12:47AM
Hi. I'm putting in chords for a piano part and can't figure out what Sibelius needs from me. The chord contains: G, B, D flat and A. I want to write G(add9)(b5). Sibelius is fine with G(add9) but doesn't know what to do for the flat 5. I've tried b5, flat5, dim5.

Thanks in advance!

b5 or -5 or 5- is correct. If Sib doesn't recognize any of these, then type it yourself using Legacy chords (File/Preferences/Other/ChordSymbols)

Check whether you are using legacy chord symbols. [File-->Preferences-->Other-->Chord Symbols]. You should be able to write anything you like. [image]

One of the nicer features of Sibelius is that when the developers add a 'new, improved' method of doing something, with its own set of flaws, they very often don't take the old method away. Chord Symbols are a case in point. The new ones do lots of clever things - which I personally rarely need but I'm sure many people appreciate - but they lose the 'type what you want' flexibility of the old method. But the old method's still there!
