Troubles Downloading/Installing Sib 7.1.3b77 onto my Laptop
Posted by alysenet - 22 Oct 09:44PM (edited 23 Oct 12:22AM)
There's a "Version" 19-something number/20-something number, too?!? All I know is I have 7.1.3 build 77 on my DESKTOP pc. I've been trying to download/install a copy from online to my *LAPTOP* pc, and keep taking wrong turns.

Here's what I've done so far, in a nutshell:

1. Went to sibelius/avid/whatever site, then into My Account, and found a sort of Downloads/Links spot for 7.1.3, clicked it. Nothing seemed to happen.

2. THEN tried a different route... clicking "Download Center." Clicked the 7.1.3 UPDATER link by mistake instead of the full 7.1.3 link!!! Went through the Activation ID/License ID/whatever the two field names were and then realized it afterward.

3. UNINSTALLED Sib fonts(?) and the separate Sib line item by going into Control Panel > Remove Programs.

4. NOW tried the RIGHT path...clicked the 7.1.3 link. But then, when I filled in the Activation/License/whatever two fields, I got an "Unspecified Error (5)" message (see screengrab). At some point I then also got a message "There's already a Sib 7 folder..do you still want to install Sib 7.1.3 into that folder?" BEATS ME!!! I then FOUND the folder to see if it looks pretty full of files and it sure does! Is that from the first install today, even though I UNINSTALLED Sib? Or is that maybe from the TRIAL Sib I had a long time ago? Should I just say Yes install in that folder? Not sure what to do at this point.

5. So NOW, later in the day, I placed a Sib file from my desktop onto my laptop and double-clicked it and again I got a "Try Sib 7" dialog box about activating or continuing trial or whatever. I tried the Activate selection, thinking I might be shown a field for entering my Activation ID/lic# that I use on my desktop, but again no such luck.
So I went with Continue Trial.

So...How do I get from "Trial" mode to an activated Sib version? I'm stymied. What is the problem? Is it:

A) I'm not allowed a Sib version on both my desktop and laptop?
or
B) When I mistakenly installed the UPDATER on my laptop, and then UNINSTALLED it, and tried INSTALLING the full Sib, my laptop still thinks I have a license associated with that mistaken updater-only install? And is an UPDATE even able to BE installed without already having Sib installed?
or
C) I ALREADY HAD Sib 7 installed... which is what I SEEM to be seeing... in an Avid folder in both my "Program Files" folder and "Program Files (86)" fol.der? If I already have Sib 7 installed, then why can't I double-click a file and have it open WITHOUT showing a "Try Sib" now-please-activate or continue the trial dialog box?

I like Sibelius... but only when I'm NOT dealing with downloads/installs/licenses.

You can no longer activate Sib 7 online. It is now out of support. However, you can open a case with registration and support here: avid.secure.force.com / support

Having said that, I got this error when I went there (Image).

Justin, you might want to put your toys down, pull your pants up and have a look at this.

Thanks, Mike and Laurence! I just now filled out a trouble ticket at the link Laurence posted. Will see what happens . . . none of the pulldown menus seemed to apply to Sibelius so I winged it.

Thanks again.

Don't worry too much about the menus. (Though it's Audio - Artist Suite Notation and Scoring - Sibelius that you want.) Just get to the point where you actually describe your problem. And don't worry about talk of ASC codes, subscriptions etc. Help in installing a version you're entitled to install is always free.

Or simply drop an email to ingrid.guce@avid.com. That's probably where your support request will end up anyway.
