Nothing, Adrian, because the boys have been trying to get Sib to run on toy computers instead of getting shot of the real bugs and issues with the main program. I think Philip's idea of a refund is a good one. I see red every time I think of having paid out for a 3 year update plan. Well, it's never again. By the time the plan runs out I'll have ported all my files to Dorico. Then they can kiss any part of my anatomy they wish!

BTW, Cygnus is correct. There has only been ONE update this year - in early February - and it wasn't much of one. We're now in early September that's 8 months.

2021.2 was mainly about Accessibility (vital for those who need it), replacing 'Find in Ribbon' with 'Command Search' and a lot of new ManuScript stuff. The sort of thing which will make Bob Z. and other plugin writers happy, and will filter through to us via their creations.

But yes, it's about time we got some shiny new toys to play with!

I guess they are waiting for Dorico version 4.

That should give them some new ideas they can try to rip off, (guess where Command Search came from?) if they can't to think of any for themselves.

A logical extension of Find in Ribbon?

I dont expect anyone is looking at this, as according to avid, the ipad version was on top of the want lists for features, it doesnt seem people are too happy about it from what you see here? would it not have been more prudent to work on some updates for the pc and mac versions at the same time. We have also been told that there are more engineers now working on the system, I have seen no proof of this, and again anyone from sibelius is again nowhere to be seen.

I'm here Philip! All the features we've been working on in the iPad version will be included in the desktop version in the next release, which is happening very soon. We've been ramping up the team and it's already paid dividends in the backend. Fortunately, since we have worked hard toward a unified codebase, we are able to make features for one platform and easily make them work on all the others in quick succession. It also allows us to expand to new platforms quickly.

The big difference with the iPad was the overhaul of the UI and the touch-specific and Apple Pencil-specific gestures. That took a lot of work and development time. We learned a lot about how desktop Sibelius can work better and will be releasing those features as they are ready. This is one of the big advantages of Avid's subscription model. We don't have to wait to bundle features every other year or so; you get the latest and greatest as fast as possible.

Not trying to be argumentative here, just pointing out that you just made our point for us, so you can understand our frustration. Currently, it feels like the "old way" plus subscription payments! Most of us don't have a clue about the iPad version because we can't. Since it's been 9 whole months with only one update (that experienced users won't even look at), it feels like we are back in the days of Sibelius 5 and 6 etc. Except we keep paying and paying.

To be fair, we've talked with lots of experienced users who are delighted at the iPad version and use it a lot. This forum isn't representative of the user base like it used to in the old days. But that's ok, we'll take our feedback from all avenues.

Inexplicably, users seem to prefer the Facebook forums, where you can’t easily attach sib files to replies, and it can be difficult to find your way back to a previously-visited thread. We must keep reminding them…

I'm sorry, Justin, but you are tainted by self-interest here. You have to toe the party line. I bet there's not a single PC user on here who is even remotely interested in a toy computer development which has left them with nothing to show for their investment - even those that use those awful windows surface pro things - and they are awful. I know because my partner has to use one for work.

I'm thoroughly disgusted with the lot of you.

Possibly, but I think not. A lot of the conversation is about the vagaries of the licensing system, and many of them seem to have up-to-date copies. This is not the place to discuss cracks, but I don't think there's been a solid one since the Avid licencing system was applied to Sibelius.

Would you like us to leave then? Honestly, that's how your post comes across.

If you don't think our points our valid, just say so. Maybe you think it's normal to pay and pay and get nothing. I've never seen it happen before. And when we are "forced" to pay because of some draconian and frankly ridiculous rules, it really adds salt to the wound. People aren't judging the iPad version.... because we literally can't. We have no point of reference. We have nothing except smaller bank accounts and a corporation that is basically forcing longtime customers to keep paying them.

And after paying and paying, we're now hearing this? "The kids like it, so screw you longtimers but keep paying?" This is how it comes off, seriously. I'm glad that the 31% of tablet owners enjoy their new product. But telling us "to be fair blah blah" isn't fair. It's condescending and completely missing the point.

I hear you and understand your frustrations. There's been a big gap between releases this year because much of the team's time was dedicated to the iPad platform. Like I said above, much of the work we did will come to and improve the desktop version in due course. We already have some releases lined up but I can't share specifics or timelines because of market restrictions, something that shouldn't be a surprise to you guys who have been with Sibelius for a long time. These things are never announced ahead of time.

As a long-time user of Sibelius myself, I've been on these forums for 15 years. There's been a lot of history in that time, from the Avid buy out, introduction of dynamic parts, Sibelius 5's playback roller coaster, the ribbon, the dev team firing, the wandering years, and the climb back with a new team, and moving into the cloud and mobile platforms. Only recently has there been such an extensive team behind Sibelius. We're very much excited to bring our new ideas and innovation to the table.

We'll hope to earn back your trust with our next few releases. If you have any particular bugs or feature requests, I'm happy to hear them, my email is always open. Part of my job is to advocate for the long-term users and I definitely want to make sure you guys are taken care of. Let me know if I can help further!

"Taken care of"? Well, there's a double meaning to that phrase!

The thing is, Justin, that there is a list of new bugs, old bugs and 'features' that's longer than a plogue engine report that have been asked to be fixed over the last 27 years (or thereabouts) that are still not fixed. There's no excuse for not fixingbbugs that have been introduced since sib 7.5 and certainly not for those introduced since 2019.

Actually, as recently as 4 months ago a perpetual license of MS Office 2019 for use on one computer was still available from MS. It was pretty well hidden but I bought 2 licenses.

I find it hard to believe that MS is particularly interested in customer satisfaction, but it seems to be better than Avid in this case.

But, yeah but, Mike, some people need toy computers. Mainframes are awkward to carry around on the move. Having said that, tho', I always pack a bunch of blank m.s. paper and pencil when I'm away from my desk. I haven't even got round yet to acquiring a mobile phone. Mike,

I am still using Office 2007 which runs fine on Windows 10. Though nowadays (boring!) Power Point presentations seem to be extremely frowned upon in the education sector.

> as a long time user yourself? I bet you do not have to pay 300 quid every few years to stay on the wagon or face a penalty fee for not keeping up with the subscription. Try to see it from the point of view of paying hundreds of pounds for an update that is absolutely no use to you and essentially getting 0 in return. The moving to cloud and mobile platforms, ah yes what did you do then? focused all your efforts on making another app for Ipad to run scorch, this seems like history repeating itself again.

at the start of this subscription nonsense, things were starting to feel a little more assured, but the recent lack of updates and radio silence until people started to squeal does nothing to assure me, and for you to say that our views on this forum are irrelevant essentially that just about proves the value you have in your loyal customers. none

Just to note that while you are all waiting for something from Avid, Steinberg has just released the **second** update to its own iPad notation app.

And that includes some "preemptive bug-fixes" to handle problems in the next Apple update (IOS version 15) due later this month.

Justin, eventually you might realize that it takes five minutes to lose someone's trust, and fifty years to get it back.

But so long as Avid are paying you (read: the people who haven't yet voted with their feet are paying you!) I guess you don't care either way.

In any case, it doesn't matter much what the "loyal customer base" do. Either they stop being loyal customers, or they die of old age.

What you should be worrying about is where your new customers will be coming from, when they can get Musescore for free, or buy much more functionality from elsewhere.

I think implying Justin doesn’t care is uncalled for. And “eventually you might realize” is just condescending.
I’m a Dorico user since version 1 as well as a Sibelius user since version 1.

It's no more patronizing and condescending than his own comments like "my email is always open" and "I feel your pain".

So far, he's contributed precisely zilch IMO.

I imagine that other notation software developers watch Avid and just laugh and realize that they have job security. I use Sibelius but I could never recommend it to anybody because of Avid. Indefensible at this point.

And three days left in the quarter. Do the math and I would expect something to be coming this week.

Funnily enough, Justin, I was doing that for the last two quarters - but I drew a blank! Never-the-less, I will clench my buttocks and wait to be shafted yet again!
