Eliminate blank space from a score.

How do you eliminate blank space from a score? The first page of my score only fills up the upper half of that page. How do I expand the music to fill up the entire page?

So far these things don't work:

1. optimize spacing
2. Make into a page
3. Increasing the staff size

Adjust the value of % page-full for Staff Justification to come into effect, in Engraving Rules -> Staves.

It looks like another problem emerged! Specifically, page one contains two complete pages of music (two diagonal slashes separating them). There is too much space between these two pages. Thanks again.

Before you do any further faffing:

1. [ctrl]a, [ctrl][shift]u, [ctrl][shift]n
2. go to the Layout tab of the ribbon and click on the icon shown in the first image. Your settings don't have to be the same as mine. Play around until you find something that works.
3. Click reset space above and reset space below then click optimize.

Make sure your margins (staff and page) are set sensibly
Make sure your staff size is appropriate for the number of instruments in each system.

Thank you very much for your help. Justification worked but now there is an empty space in the middle of page one. I tried all of your suggestions. As I said in a previous message to another user, the first page includes two pages of music (separated by the diagonal dash symbol). I now need to reduce the space between these two pages.
I have attached a screenshot. I don't like sharing my music online so the screenshot shows the bare minimum. Thanks again.

I think you mean two systems rather than two pages. Looks like staff justification is too small. See Robin's reply above. Either that or you have too little content on the page. Delete the page break. Follow Mike's instruction above. Unlock everything and start reformatting from scratch.

Looking at what I can see from the size of the staves, they are too tiny for this page. If you are trying to reproduce exactly the original score layout consider the following.

1. make the overall staff size bigger. (go back to 0.28" if necessary)
2. reduce the size of all staves after the first page to whatever works.
3. Increase space between staves value to something bigger to spread the staves out within systems.

We don't know what version or tier of Sibelius you are using, but later versions allow you to specify different staff sizes, even within systems) on a per-system basis. If you have a version (post 7.5) you should be able to use this to help with layout.

Thank you for your help.
Right now I'm using the most up to date version of Sibelius on Mac.
How do you increase or decrease the staff size on the first page only (two systems on that page)? I've tried everything.
fyi: There is a major difference between the first page of the score (7 staves per system) and subsequent pages (between 30-40). Thanks.

Set the default size to be large enough to look good on the first page, then select all the rest (or however many you need to change) and use the inspector to set them to a smaller size. In the latest version of Sib there are, I think, 4 preset sizes (which are editable) that you can choose from (Normal, Medium, Small and Extra small).

Thanks for introducing me to inspector. I've decided that after my current deadline I'm going to study the entire manual or it's a bit irresponsible for me to create these threads.

I figured out a solution:

If I increase the staff size the number of measures per page reduces dramatically and makes the page look bloated with too little content. I figured out that the best way to resolve my issue is embarrassingly simple: uniformly adjust the distance between staves (option-up or down arrow) on the first page. This maintains the number of measures on the page and also reduces space in the middle. It looks exactly as a score should look and it took 2 minutes.
