Blue screen of death
Posted by Laurence Payne - 30 Jun 04:00PM
Just an anecdote. But maybe it will help someone...

My Windows 10 hadn't had a BSOD for many years.

Until recently. The nvidia 210 graphics card seems to have been the culprit. When I built the computer, it was a good choice as a cheap and passively-cooled (therefore silent) card with quite adequate performance for a DAW. But its rather elderly driver was blocking me from installing the latest update of Windows 10.
I replaced it with its current equivalent for about £30. No blue screens since.

Maybe it was the driver/Windows combination. Maybe it just wore out! Maybe it was something else altogether (the crash dumps didn't point the finger specifically at the video driver). But, anyway, no more blue screens. Fingers crossed... 🙂

Thanks for sharing, Laurence, and I hope you will be out of the woods.

I have had 2 x BSODs in the last 6-8 months, and a couple of complete freeze-ups requiring a restart. I probably should check all devices and drivers if they continue.
