In this Sibelius 7 Ultimate version I've lost the ability to hold Control and then use the number 7,8, and 9 to create accidentals (like B flat or F sharp)in a score.
I've been trying in the "engraving rules" and in the menu of the "edit text styles" section but nothing helps
See other post of 26/6 headed 'Accidentals in plain text'. My favourite solution is to change "b" or "#" into flat & sharp characters in Text/Format/CharacterStyle. Choose MusicText. Ctrl.7 thru' 9 seems to work OK in Technique but not in Plain Text. They have different word menus assigned.
The OP's issue with ctrl-7, 8 & 9 not creating accidentals can be related to Num Lock on the computer keyboard's keypad. Make sure "Num Lock" is set to on, on the computer keyboard keypad.
But perhaps the issue is simply that you are trying to use Plain Text as you talk about in the other thread, which Adrian is helping you with.
I create accidental symbols all the time. My fingers just refuse to obey me, sometimes! ;-)

> I'm trying to use Georgia Bold Italic. I've always used it in the past with Sibelius.
That was not my question. I was asking: in what Sibelius Text Style are you trying to write accidentals? Was it Expression Text, or Technique Text, or what?
> I went to Text/Styles/Music Text and edited it to Georgia/Bold Italic.
That is not a legitimate setting for the Text Style "Music Text". You must not use any plain text font for "Music Text". The only acceptable fonts for "Music Texts" are bespoke fonts in a custom layout of special musical symbols for Sibelius. Please restore the setting for "Music Text" to one of the allowed settings for Sibelius:
- Opus Text Std
- Helsinki Text Std
> I also tried Appearance/Engraving Rules/Chord Symbols and couldn't figure out what to edit.
What connection have Chord Symbols with your enquiry?
I am completely baffled as to what you are trying to achieve. Please start from scratch and explain carefully what your objective is.

My objective is to be able to enter Chord Symbols into a Sibelius piano manuscript. All of my chord symbols are fine except for any chord symbol needing to show an accidental such as B flat or F sharp.
The flat and sharp signs appear only as a strange mark inside of the chord symbol.
I my previous version of Sibelius I used control and the numbers 7, 8, or 9 to accomplish this.
My Sibelius Ultimate version is 2020.3. I'm not sure if I'm using 7 or 8.
> To answer your questions: I'm using Georgia bold italic for my chord symbols.
That font is not acceptable.
The only font that you can use for Text Style "Chord Symbols" is one of the "chord" fonts that are supplied with Sibelius. These fonts have custom layouts for the special features of writing chords, including the special symbols. You cannot use plain text fonts such as Georgia for writing chords in music.
I take it that you are inputting chords by starting with Ctrl-k (Windows) or Command-k (macOS)?
