Can someone tell me how to create "ticks" or "short" bar lines suitable for notating plainsong in Sibelius 7? EG. one continuous bar with only ticks or short barlines to differentiate length of phrases.

You'll find them at Notations/barline, the only counterintuitive part being that "invisible" gets pasted on top of the default visible barline. You'll still have to chose a time signature, though if you're using stemless notes you can fill various lengths with 16th, 32nds and such.
