Sib. 6.x: Composite time signature
Posted by Stephen Wrigley - 29 Nov 01:10PM
Hi there, I should know how to do this, but don't, and can't find the precise answer on the forum.
How do I write a composite time signature of 6/8 (3/4), as that in the assez vif movement of Ravel's string quartet?
Beaming not an issue.
I'm on 6.2 but have 7.5 if it helps
Cheers
Stephen

Create your 6/8 TS the normal way. Keep the bar selected. Goto Text/SpecialText/TimeSig. At the caret, type "3 [Return] 4"[Escape]. This will place itself automatically against the 6/8.

Bless you, sir, as ever, for your swift response. Any way I can get the 3/4 in brackets?

This is more tricky. Found this on Google (attached).

Regarding beaming. Before any music is written, place 6/8 TS in bar 1 and 3/4 TS in bar 2. System select these 2 bars and hit Repeat (r) for the length of the score. Write your music. Now Ctrl-select all the Time sigs (there is no filter for this) and hit delete. This leaves all the desired beaming intact. Labour intensive, but quicker than re-beaming every other bar.

Hi there

Adrian, you can filter time signatures by starting with a cmd-A (ctrl-A) selection and using the Advanced Filter to select the relevant Time signatures text style.

Of course you can. Silly me. Never thought to check the text box. Thanx, Jeremy.
