Custom Text Style - not switchable
Posted by Protean Man - 12 Oct 06:11PM
When creating a custom text style it is only accessible when creating a new text item.

If I have a text box - say the default Plain Text box on the page. Then the drop down menu under the TEXT RIBBON will not let me select my Custom Text Style. It isn't even in the list of options.

I can not find a select box to make it available through default text styles.

It can be selected however if I create a new text box on the page using my custom style, only then will ALL of the custom text styles appear in the drop down menu under the TEXT RIBBON.

Obviously something is missing or it's a bug.

You can only replace text styles with objects that have compatible styles. So if you defined a new staff text style, you should be able to use it on a piece of selected Technique Text but not a lyric or system text.

If this is not the problem please post a sample Sib score with enough data to demonstrate the problem.

If you create some text using the Plain System Text (which is default to sibelius), then create a new text style (even based on the same Plain System Text), you are unable to switch to the custom created style in any way. The drop down list under the Text ribbon should have your custom text style there.

This isn't going between chord symbols and lyrics or anything else that is from a different symbol type. It is simply from the exact same type of text from an identical text type with even 1 difference - just created by you vs. default.

My example is from the default Plain System Text to a custom text style based on Plain System Text with the horizontal set to Align to Page instead of the default Align to Note. It does not appear in the drop down text style list.
You can select your custom text style when switching from another custom text style. It is the default text styles that will not allow a switch to a custom text style.

I hope that makes sense.

I cannot reproduce this issue following your description of it. When I create a variant of Plain System Text, it is instantly available for changing the style of any other System Text in the score.

As Bob asked earlier, please post a Sibelius .sib score file which demonstrates the issue.

By the way, "Plain System Text" is not the default Sibelius text style: the base text style is "Plain Text", which is a Staff Text style, not a System Text Style.
