Sib. 7.5: Metronome mark prints as "q", instead of note

When I put the tempo and metronome marking in Century Schoolbook, instead of a quarter note being available for the metronome mark, it prints as "q = ". What do I need to do to get a quarter-note instead of "q"?

You must not change the font of the quarter-note symbol to be Century Schoolbook. In other words, exclude the quarter-note symbol from the selection when changing the font for the rest of the text.

If you already have a tempo string showing a bad 'q' instead of the note symbol, then:
- select that text object and go into edit mode;
- select just the 'q' character;
- in ribbon tab Text -> Format -> pull-down menu titled "a", alter "Music Text" to "None", then alter it back to "Music Text";
- now the 'q' will become a quarter-note in the correct font.

Thank you, Robin! I've been trying to fix it via your suggestion, but it's probably my lack of expertise with this stuff that's preventing me from achieving success. When I select just the "q" character, I can't get the pull-down menu from Format. When I de-select it, I can get the pull-down menu, which is labeled "Edit All Fonts". Under Music Text Font, the pull-down menu there has no option that says "None". I'm stuck. SOS, please!

You are looking in the wrong menu. Do NOT open "Edit All Fonts"

- select the tempo text and go into edit mode (press Enter);
- then select just the incorrect 'q' character;
- then, in ribbon tab Text -> Format, pull down the menu labelled "a";
- in menu "a", select "None"; then revert the selection to "Music text".

It would be better if you never got into this situation in the first place. If you wish to generally change to using "Century Schoolbook" throughout all your scores, then BEFORE creating any text objects, alter the font selection for Text Style "Plain Text" to "Century Schoolbook". This will cascade that change to all relevant other text styles.

WARNING: Do NOT use "Edit All Fonts" to change "Main Text Font".

Thank you, Robin! I understand your good advice to change Test Style "plain text" selection to Century Schoolbook - will remember this - and now understand which pull-down menu you were referring to - the screenshot helped. However, I have done as you suggested, and nothing has changed! After I select "None", do I immediately revert back to "music text"? That is what I understand from your instructions, but it seems to have no effect. Since I had mistakenly changed "main text font" in "Edit All Fonts" to Century Schoolbook, should I change it back to something else? (I'm guessing that maybe this is the problem...)

Yes.

I have no idea why that is not working for you: it works fine for me. It is necessary to have just the single 'q' character alone selected at that time.

If you have changed "Main text font" in "Edit All Fonts", then the score file will have been damaged, in a way that cannot easily be put right (apart from importing one of the standard House Styles). It might be easiest to start again with a fresh score file.

Yes, I have only selected the single "q" character. Well, unfortunately, this solution doesn't appear to work for me after all. Anyone else have any ideas?

In this score, in "Edit All Fonts", the item "Music Text Font" had been incorrectly set to "Century Schoolbook".

"Century Schoolbook" is a plain text font, and cannot be used for "Music Text Font". Music Text Fonts have a custom layout of characters to codepoints, and the only such fonts available in a standard Sibelius installation are the music text fonts that ship with Sibelius:

Opus Text Std
Helsinki Text Std
Inkpen2 Text Std
Reprise Text Std

Your score should probably be using "Opus Text Std".
