The Score that never seems to be right
Posted by Nelson Riveros - 19 May 11:21PM
Adrian on a previous thread has spent a lot of his time on this score helping me to get it right. I had to make a change to the guitar intro and everything went hay-wire. As it is now, in the solo section at measure 84, it never goes to DC al Coda, it goes straight to the CODA. when I get it to go to the Coda manually, it stops 1/2 way at 87

There must be something wrong with my Sibelius

thank you

One of the reasons was that your bar numbers had obviously changed and your manual playback was using the wrong ones.

Another reason was that your DS and Segno were very confusing. You had two signs (one in bar 84 and the other at bar 9. While a person might be able to apply logic to that situation, a computer cannot.

Also, your "To Coda" didn't have the words "To Coda", so Sib didn't know whether it was the actual coda or a "To Coda". If you don't want to see the words, I think you can hide them using ~ and still have them function. See attached.

BTW, Nelson, may I suggest that you stick to a single thread for this issue. Otherwise it is going to get very confusing for all of us.

Thank you Mike, yes I will keep it in one thread. I think I understand now regarding the play back numbers. I dont really understand what you did. I was working fine before with the two DS and Segno signs, then it wasn;t, as you mentioned Sibelius did not recognize it...strange,

I see where you placed the CODA's very large text. When I go to print, its not featured on the sheet at 37 yet still goes to the CODA>

There is suppose to be a CODA sign at 34 and there is not, yet it still goes to the CODA very confusing. When it comes to printing., there is no TO CODA in measure 37..Piano chart looks great

thank you

Hi Nelson. There was no coda wheel in 34 - it was in bar 37.

The reason it doesn't seem to be there in the part is because you must have dragged it at some point in the past (probably by accident while looking at the part(s) in panorama mode). System select bar 37 (purple box) in the part and press [ctrl/cmd][shift]p. You'll have to sort it in the bass part as well.

Thank you Mike, its still all a bit confusing but at least I understand now regarding the repeats and where to change them, Yes that could be that I dragged it at some point.

How can i save this as a template?

From the rt-click menu Text-->Other System Text-->Ds DC Coda Repeats.

When you get the caret, rt-click again for the list of pre-defined text items or

for a segno press [ctrl][shift]4 (top row of keyboard),

for a coda wheel press [ctrl]0 (again from the top tow of the keyboard).

Once in place, you can re-size them using the text tab of the ribbon.

Don't forget, one text object can have multiple text sizes. Just select the bit you want - usually the segno or coda wheel - and use the buttons on the text tab to change the size.
