Sib. 5.x: Registering one Serial Number on Two Machines: Is it Possible?
Posted by Annabelle S. Morison - 19 May 02:36PM
I tried installing Sibelius 5.2.5 on the same machine as Sibelius 6.0, but when I tried to register Sibelius 5.2.5, it says my serial number is already registered with Sibelius 6. Which brings up my question. Is it possible to have two versions of Sibelius registered on one serial number on the same machine?

You cannot "go backwards" with registrations on your own, without assistance from Avid. When you upgraded to Sibelius 6, your registration for Sibelius 5 was disabled so that you can no longer register any further copies of Sibelius 5 on any PC, although any copies of earlier versions of Sibelius already registered on the same machine as the newly-registered Sibelius 6 would continue working.

I wonder what feature of Sibelius 5 you want that Sibelius 6 does not offer?

To contact Avid Registration Support, open a case at:
http://avid.force.com/Support/RegistrationCaseCreation
It is free of charge. Select the "Audio" route in the pull-down product selectors.

Specifically, Sibelius Access RC1 by Dan Rugman (daniel.rugman@googlemail.com), which so far is only compatible with Sibelius 5. Specifically it's a feature that allows accessibility for a screenreader like JAWS (Job Access With Speech). I've been trying to contact him about the availability of scripts for Sibelius Access 6, but it seems I haven't got an answer yet.

Also, Sibelius 5 has the ability to import SCORE music files whereas Sibelius 6 and later does not.

Do you mean Scorch Music Files?

No, he means SCORE. A venerable notation program.

Your reasons for asking for an additional Sibelius 5.2.5 installation seem reasonable. I'm sure Avid will grant your request. As long as you DID previously hold a Sibelius 5 licence.

I still have a Sibelius 5 license on another machine. When I last heard from Dan Rugman in August of 2018, he said he was almost finished and about ready to release Sibelius Access 6. However, I haven't heard anything since.
