Sib. 8.x: Graphic score select/copy/cut corrupts audio and video export in version 8.1 +
Posted by Mark S. Dickerson - 16 May 06:34PM
I just started working my scores with the video export options, and found that whenever I use the graphic select (copy/cut) on the score, after 2 restarts of Sibelius, it then is unable to export either audio (mp3/wav) or video of the score. The normal export does not play back the score during the export, but once I use the graphic select, then the score starts playing back to me when exporting. At the end of the export I get a generic error message (audio export) which says I do not have permission in the folder I am exporting into. That is wrong as I have full admin permissions, so this error is bogus. The score should not play back during export which is the first indication of the bug.
Anyway, I find that after I reinstalled ver 8.1 I immediately used REGEDIT to export all of the associate avid registry entries.. Then if the problem reoccurs I stop Sibelius, then use REGEDIT to import those new .reg entries which I saved, and normally the problem then disappears. It also is sometimes caused just by exporting the score as a video to a .wmv file. I noticed others using slightly newer versions also have this problem so I am pretty sure it has not been fixed by whomever is writing the code. Can someone please report it. I have a workaround, but would rather purchase a version which is less buggy. (ps I am a retired software engineer and am comfortable in the internals of code, so I only recommend my workaround if you are comfortable in inner workings of Windows. )
