I arrange a lot of church music for a small music group. The piano usually has the rhythm and so I type (or paste) the lyrics on to Voice 1 of the piano line - so far so good.
I then create the other instrumental harmonies which sometimes have elongated chords over the top of the melody rhythm. To make it easier for the amateur musician to follow I copy and paste all the lyrics to the different instruments which nicely retain their positioning (as you will see in the attached score - particularly on pp7 & 8 of the Full Score).
When I go to the individual parts to print for them, the spacing goes haywire and the words crash as Sibelius only seems to look at the note spacing (again in the attached score).
Is there any automated functionality to get the words to spread themselves out without the overlap?

You'll need to include the melody notes in each instrument stave, to give the words something to anchor to. The melody notes can be in an unused voice, and hidden. (See attachments 1,2,3.)

It would be more usual to just give a brief word cue at the beginning of each verse, so they can be sure WHICH verse they've got to. (Attachment 4). Following 8 bars of 4/4 without getting lost is a pretty basic musical skill! And forcing an un-natural note spacing onto a simple part can actually make it HARDER to read (look at picture 3 again).
