The downloadable plugin Bracket Notes (category lines) has been updated. In Sib 7.1.3 and later, the plugin will adjust the bar spacing to make room for the bracket if the chord is at the start of the bar. It is not able to adjust spacing for any other notes in the bar.

The plugin adds bracket lines to the left of chords (one or more note in the same voices). It turns off Magnetic Layout by defaults, and positions the bracket hooks to be in the middle of a staff space near the top and bottom note.

If you add a line into the staff, Sibelius will not make room for it horizontally and you usually need to drag the notes to the right (or use shift+alt+right arrow) to make room.

The plugin is now able to make space for itself if the chord is immediately to the right of the barline. If you respace the bar, that spacing will be lost, but it is a start. Plugins have no ability to adjust bar spacing except at the barline, so it cannot adjust any other chords. Also, it you change the notes bracketed, you will need to adjust the height of the line.

This all seems very tedious, but I suggest that you try adding a bracket by hand to really experience tedium.

Just trying to reduce whatever tedium I can reduce...
