Sibelius 2019.1 is now available
Posted by Sam at Sibelius - 24 Jan 05:53PM
Hi All,

We're pleased to announce the immediate availability of our January release of Sibelius.

You should get a notification soon to download the upgrade through Application Manager or Avid Link, or you can download the installers from your account at https://my.avid.com/products.

In this release, we've included several workflow improvements and important bug fixes. In summary:

  • New Review Mode to allow you to navigate and play back your score in a locked state

  • New Replay line in both the score and the Timeline

  • Clicking in the Timeline now moves the playback line

  • Go to Bar and Go to Page both move the playback line too

  • Integration with Avid Link

  • A slew of bug fixes and other smaller improvements

In this release, Avid Application Manager is being replaced by Avid Link to better manage your account, license and so on.

To read more about the releases today, please head over to the blog, at http://www.avidblogs.com/sibelius-2019-1

We hope you enjoy these new features and we look forward to hearing how you get on.

Sam

i was hoping with this avid link i would be able to fluidly activate and deactivate sibelius on different computers, i deactivated sibelius on my mac just to see, and low and behold i still can't reactivate Sibelius on the machine I've just deactivated, when are you going to get this sorted, I'm so fed up with this. please email me personally about this issue, i have more than 2 pcs and i want to be able to fluidly change so i can have 2 activations on any 2 machines at a time at my will.

Yes. The same thing with me: after a reboot of my PC.
Also, it offers Audioscore, but when I download the file it is in format .dmg, for Macs. I'm using a PC.
Another bug: I installed photo score, but Avid Link repeatedly suggests me to install it.

Not really a bug, but when I try and click on "more information" for "AVID Loopmasters Sample Pack" I only see the version number. I don't know if I really would need that stuff so after trying out I just might throw it away again.
>Edited: I will do so at once, because it's another huge file for Mackies, wasting expensive space on my hard disk.

BTW., this website, opened in Chrome on my Win 10 PC, is being classified as "not secure". That's off topic here, but it should be noted and corrected.
Thankx.
Edited: By Feb. 3rd, this is corrected.

I'm having the same Avid Link problem with Sibelius 2019 and PhotoScore - haven't bothered with AudioScore as I don't use it. I'm continually nagged with Windows notifications that these Apps need updating, and also the throbbing shield in the bottom right hand corner of the screen asking me if I want to install Sibelius even though it is of course already installed. I raised this in another thread, and Robin Walker suggested starting a thread in the lounge area of Avid Link, which I've done, & although that does seem to have made contact with the developers, so far nothing helpful has emerged.

So what I've done now is disable Avid Link from start up, using Task Manager, & now it all seems fine, except that to check if there's any reply to my thread in the Avid Link Lounge I'm going to have to re-start it again occasionally.

So far I've only updated the desktop. For the time being I dare not try updating on the laptop!

Application Manager was irritatingly flaky, and when it was replaced by something new I was really pleased. But the pleasure lasted just a few minutes... hope this gets sorted out & history doesn't keep repeating itself.

I've created a case for you and forwarded it to our tech-team so that they can investigate your issue. I've also reset your license from my end. Please try to re-activate your license now.

thank you Ingrid that has worked I now have both my computers activated, and thank you for forwarding my request. Out of frying pan, into fire?

BTW the advertised link to http://www.avidblogs.com/sibelius-2019-1 is at best borderline illegal in the EU. The splash screen giving the options to "agree" and "find out more" doesn't work - if you click "find out more", you get the same splash screen again on top of the "find out more" page, and you can't actually READ it until AFTER you have clicked "agree".

Still, that level of "competence" doesn't remotely surprise me. Philip Rothman's blog tells me everything interesting in the first sentence - "no new notation and editing features."

But hey, I guess the Sibelius fanboys will throw money at anything these days. I love the marketing department doublespeak of "free for all Sibelius users with active subscriptions!"

I'm still annoyed that you still can't minimise the quick start. It's a pain because if you use 'show desktop' to get rid of it, it pops up again the next time you open a window or program!

Re: Sibelius 2019.1 is now available

and the usual technical tumbleweed rolls across the annoying activation prompt on avid link. totally unaware of all the hours wasted trying to get activated.

edit, following my post above I have discovered that avid link for mac is not yet ready for prime time, it will not allow you to activate or deactivate Sibelius, because for some reason on the mac its not reporting system id or activation code, in order for the server to validate it, when you update to Sibelius 2019.1 Sibelius stays active as it was previously activated in application manager, if you check avid link you will see that it does not show that Sibelius is activated, it will show available if you have one license left or not available if you have used all activations.

If you try and deactivate Sibelius from this it will not be possible, also if you try and activate it will not work as its not linking properly with Sibelius.

The temporary solution to this is to download a solo installer of application manager and activate and deactivate on the old system for the time being as it still works on 2019.1.

I hope someone at avid will take note of this, its taken me ages to work this out, and had no one answering my question to this at all.

the windows version of avid link seems to be fine.

hope this helps in some way.

still nothing done with the error I go from activated on application manager, install avid link it says not available for license, and perpetual license. it is saying this due to the fact that it already thinks both activations are used and it is not detecting, that I already have Sibelius activated. this is still far from fixed, totally fed up with avid not a thing done, just left to rot with this, now you have my money you just don't care.

Byxx - you'll find the 2019.1 installer in your account, at https://my.avid.com/products

One of my students is able to login to Avid but is unable to login with the same credentials using Application Manager. He logged to Avid before my eyes without problem. Application Manager always generate a unknown error message. As a result, he's unable to run Sibelius First. Any ideas?

In Avid Application Manager Preferences, disable "Anonymous Data Collection"

Dear Sam,

looks like an update only. I own Sib2018. Is there a trial version of 2019 Ultimate? It says it is expired

Any trial version of 2019.x will overwrite any installed version of Sibelius 8.x or 2018.x. "Trial versions" are for those who have not yet purchased the product.

About VSt-effects.
To have Sibelius using a VSt-effect, the needed Vst-.dll must be copied to the folder C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins. However, apparently, some of those will not be accessible for Sibelius, and I can't figure why. When launching a score, in the first launching window I can see which plugin Sibelius is checking. The one I wish to use appears there. However, when the score is opened, and I go to "playback", and wish to select that effect, it is not shown in the appearing dropdowns when clicking on the playback configs effects page. What's the story, please?

No, that was the procedure with old versions of Sibelius up to version 6.

From Sibelius 7 onwards, do not copy VST DLLs anywhere. Use the "Folders" button in "Audio Engine Options" to identify to Sibelius the location of the enclosing folder of the VST DLL, as installed normally.

There isn't enough information provided to answer.
Which plugins, exactly, do not appear?
Are they 64-bit plugins? Sibelius cannot use 32-bit VST plugins.

When upgrading to Sibelius Ultimate 2019.1, does the installation process automatically uninstall the Application Manager or is that left for the user to do (if he or she wishes)?

Thanks, Mark

Avid Application Manager is uninstalled and Avid Link is installed instead.

Thanks for your reply, Robin,
I think that will help me on.
If I identify that folder C:\Program Files\Avid\VSTPlugins in the audio engine, everything should work just fine.
If I'd select the standard VSt-plugin folder, Sibelius had to check at every launch more than 150 plugins, most of which I do not intend to use in Sib. In one special case, I reinstalled the failing plugin and selected in the installer that AVID\VSt-plugin folder. After that change in procedure, the plugin would show up in Sib.
Does, b.t.w., Sib make a difference between standard VST (2) plugins and VST3? I can't see that...
Thank you.

Sibelius does not support VST3 plug-ins, and does not recognise them.

is 2019.3 or even better 2019.4 going to be out soon, come on we have already missed a month, and there are lots of bugs to be fixed and more bugs to be made, to give you something to say you have fixed in the following month.
