Sib. 8.x: Error message tells me to reactivate Sibelius

Hi all. I was in the process of saving a file when Sibelius crashed (1st time for ages!). I was saving the file to my OneDrive cloud storage, and I think the internet temporarily went down during the save process.

The following error message appeared when I restarted my computer (see attachment):

"There was an error initializing the licensing engine. Your copy of Sibelius now needs to be reactivated." (Plus a link to a Sibelius help page, which had been superseded.)


I tried to run the RegTool application programme, but just got another error message. (Error 150021)

Can anyone please help?! TIA

Send your web browser to the URL given in the error message, and follow the instructions in Article 2 there.

I don't understand your reference to "had been superseded"

Thank you Robin! Sibelius now going again and I'm back in business. Note that I had to try several times to get into some of those sites, even when clicking on links. Happy Christmas to you!

Aaaagh! It's happened again. I have just purchased bluetooth headphones and it seems to have something to do with switching the headphones on after I have been working with a file. Or maybe when a file is open. I suspect I will have to do a workaround, hopefully without too many reactivations. Or is there some setting I have to adjust? For example, should I disable (if possible) the Avrcp transport adapter?

If you use Bluetooth audio devices, ensure that they are powered up and "paired" before launching Sibelius. Also ensure that you quit Sibelius before un-pairing the Bluetooth device.

Sibelius cannot tolerate audio devices appearing or disappearing while it is running.

Hi Robin. It seems that Sibelius cannot tolerate Bluetooth, full stop. I have followed the instructions but it has deactivated again. (I think it is now 4 or 5 times!) Bear in mind that I have v.8.4.2 which probably has more unresolved bugs than your version. As I understand it I have no access to technical support now, which is particularly annoying because I bought the Bluetooth headphones purely to use with Sibelius. I will now have to return to my wired headphones, which are so awkward to use. But I am still thankful for your help!

Many Sibelius users use Bluetooth successfully. There ought to be no connection between audio device type and usage, and Sibelius becoming de-activated (which is something that happens within Avid Application Manager, not within Sibelius).

Ensure that you are signed in to Avid Application Manager, and ensure that your PC has full unrestricted access to the internet. If you run custom firewalls or VPNs, you might need to configure that software to permit Avid Application Manager unrestricted internet access.

Is your Bluetooth onboard, or a dongle? Was it active when Sibelius was registered on that computer? Might this be the issue where Sibelius reads a new network adapter as indicating a new, unauthorised, computer?
