Sib. 2018.x: Silent notes
Posted by daveje - 01 Dec 02:29PM
I've recently downloaded Sibelius 2018.11, and I am trying to create a silent note. I've done it countless times before in the past without any trouble, but now in notations>type, I see that the symbol for a silent note is diamond shaped. When I click on this “silent” (diamond shaped) notehead, it makes the note in my score diamond shaped, but it doesn't make it silent. It all seems very odd to me, but I suppose I'm just being stupid. Anyway, perhaps someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong. Many thanks.

PS
I'm using mac OS X.

I've just found out that, in notations>type. the 7th notehead from the top in the dropdown menu, (the one marked as “Large slash with stem”) makes a note in the score silent. Thankfully, it doesn't make it diamond headed either. Then, on the other hand, neither does it make it a large slash with a stem.
I'm confused.

I cannot reproduce any of the above issues. Maybe the score has been edited in the past to have non-standard notehead types. Try importing a standard House Style.

If you can produce any of the above issues starting from a standard Manuscript Paper, then please attach a Sibelius .sib score file which reproduces those issues.

Thanks, Robin.
Yes, you're right. A while after I'd made the post, it dawned on me that the issues might be due to having been working on an old score, which I was doing. After I'd encountered the issues, I tried to see if they would still arise in a new score. They did, but, of course, I hadn't shut down Sibelius before opening a new score. As soon as I shut down Sibelius, then opened it again, with a new score everything returned to normal and there were no problems arising in notations>type.
My mistake, but thanks once again.
