Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble with the note/key A : whenever I want to enter the note A, nothing happens when I press the key A on my computer keyboard.
But when I add the note A to a chord, by pressing [Shift + A], it works perfectly.
It's very annoying because, everytime I need to input an A note, I have to input a G or a B instead and move it up or down to A! For an A flat, I have to input a G sharp and press Enter to change it into A flat. Etc., etc., etc.
Anyone has had the same problem before and solved it?

Go to Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts. Attempt to assign the shortcut 'A' to some random function. I suspect you'll get a message telling you it's already assigned to something else, and what that something else is! (See attached screenshot.) Then your path to solving the problem will be clear.

Thanks a lot, but I already tried this and in fact, it tells me the same thing as you: the key A is already "being used for another function called: 'Create A'. "
It just doesn't create any A at all… 🤔

What keyboard language layout does your computer keyboard have?
Is this on Mac OS or on Windows?
What version number of Sibelius are you using?

Thanks. Presumably, this is an AZERTY layout, rather than a QWERTY layout, keyboard.

For the next piece of assistance, please attach a screen-shot of Sibelius Preferences, open on the "Keyboard Shortcuts" page. I need to check the settings there.

Yes, AZERTY. But in my case, Q opens the clef menu as it should, and there's nothing wrong with the key A itself… it works well when I "add pitch" A, just not when I simply want to "Create A" like any other note.

Here's the screen-shot. I'm using my custom feature set, but inputing an A doesn't work better with the default set.

Okay, actually when I use the default feature set and turn the keyboard language to French, the A key works! Hallelujah!
But, it doesn't with my own feature set… which puzzles me.

I don't know what was wrong with my custom set… Anyway I created a new one, with the French option turned on, and am making the same changes I did for the first custom set, and so far A seems to work fine. Thanks a lot for helping and I'll keep you posted if other odd things happen with this.

I'd have thought it was the keyboard needing to be set to the correct layout more than anything else!

Yes, as you have discovered, it is important to specify the language of the keyboard in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences page, before making custom variations of the default keyboard shortcuts.

Since you are using an English-language version of Sibelius, the "Auto" setting for keyboard layout assumed an English QWERTY keyboard.
