Sib. 8.x: Feather Beam across a full measure
Posted by Kiyren - 15 Oct 07:56PM
Hello!

I'm trying to get a feathered beam to go across 24 notes to fill up a 4/4 bar.

I have, until now, approximated this by just writing in increasingly faster rhythms that fill up the space, but I would like to write it more cleanly. I see there is a feathered beam button in the keypad, but it doesn't seem to work with this many notes.

If I end the beam at beat 4 of the 4/4, then it displays the feathered beam correctly, but if I connect it through to all of the notes, it reverts back to the straight line seen in my attachment.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If not, I can just hide the beams and draw them in myself, I suppose...

Here is what I mean that it works across 3 beats instead of the full 4. Not sure why...

I think you've come across a notation that sib can't cope with. It seems to work fine until you have 16th & 32nd notes combined in a single beam. I have tried playing with different beam group settings in 'More Options', but no luck I'm afraid.

Hi there

Adrian is right. The feathered beam feature in Sibelius requires that all notes are entered using the fastest rhythmic value that you want to see (in your case, 32nd/demisemiquavers). The slow end of the feathering will always be a single beam.

I would enter the entire bar again, as a 24:32 tuplet (though there are other options) and hide the tuplet bracket/number.

Hope that helps
