Just installed Sibelius on W10.

The first time I opened Sibelius it created a folder called Documents on my desktop.

Since there was already a folder on my desktop called Documents, one created by W10, this created some confusion on my part.

I inadvertently deleted the wrong one and had to go through a bit of trouble getting the Windows-created Documents folder back and pointed at the right location.

I deleted the Documents folder created by Sibelius and the next time I opened Sibelius it once again created a folder on my desktop called Documents.

Someone, please, tell me this is not a feature.

This sounds like a Windows misconfiguration. There should not be any "Documents" folder on the Desktop, not even one created by Windows.

Windows 10 installs with a Documents folder under ThisPC. It's where you keep, um, documents. If you create a shortcut to this folder it appears on the desktop and that is not a misconfiguration.

The question is, why does Sibelius create a Documents folder on the desktop, one that I can't get rid of because if I do it is recreated the next time I open Sibelius?

In your first post you said that the Documents folder on the Desktop had been created by W10. I pointed out that that should not be happening. Now you indicate that in fact you created it, which is different to what you first stated.

You should check out the settings in Sibelius Preferences -> Saving and Exporting.

You should also check out:
- the values of your Windows "Environment Variables", particularly HOMEPATH;
- whether (and how) any of the standard Windows folders such as "Documents" have been relocated from their default locations (look in their Properties->Location).

Is there anything contained within the "Documents" folder that appears to have been created by Sibelius?

If you create shortcut to a folder, the *shortcut* appears on the desktop, not the folder. You might be able to (mis)configure Windows to put an actual Documents library folder on the desktop but that's nothing Windows would normally do.

I, too, have a shortcut to Documents on my desktop. Sibelius does not interfere with this in any way.

I've looked around - not exhaustively - and find no Sibelius file or folder named "Documents".

Follow Robin's recommendations and look for
C:\Users\\Desktop\Documents
or something like that.


By the way, I scanned the registry for Sibelius entries specifying "Documents". The default location for many (if not all) of the "Saving and Exporting" paths seems to be
"C:\Users|\Documents\Scores"
I assume Sibelius gets the first part of that path name from whatever Windows had for your Documents path at the time you installed Sibelius. If you (or a Windows bug) had changed that to path to
"C:\Users\\Desktop\Documents"
you might get the results you are seeing.

Does the desktop Documents folder contain a folder named "Scores"?
