Have altered a score I`ve been tinkering with for a few months. Now upon wanting to create parts, (I`ve deleted all the parts on a previous occasion) the tab which says
create Parts doesn`t open when I click on it. Have never had this problem at all before in 15 years of creating parts.
Here`s my score for you great guys to try to solve my prob.
Yes Laurence, this will enable me to open the parts, but the score paper is pale yellow, and when I click on other objects f & p etc, they all change to deep yellow. I`ve done one part - here it is.
It doesn`t open for me . . . . . It was all created in Sib 8, but is now placed (I know not how) in, and shows the box stating I should update Sib. I have 8.5.1 and 8.6. The 'box' (above) states that it was created in Sib 7, and that I should update. I`ve tried opening it in 8 but it`s not listed on file.
That's the standard paper colour for Parts, isn't it? Don't worry, it doesn't print. You can change it in Preferences/ Textures if you want.
Is your 'deep yellow' the indication that something in a Part has been moved from it's Score position? Again, quite standard. You can turn it off in View: Differences in Parts.
I`ve discovered that when I open the initial box appears asking me how do I want to open the file, I chose the wrong one i.e. Applications/Sibelius, instead of mearly Sibelius. I can progess with this way, and see what happens in future. I think there`s an irregularly crept in somewhere when I deleted all the original parts. Thanks Laurence. Press on. :)
The score I sent you was in Sibelius 7.5 format. Sounds as if you were trying to open it in Sibelius 7.2. The 'Later version of Sibelius 7...' message is misleading. It just means 'later version of Sibelius'.
If SIB files are trying to auto-open in an early version, I suggest you put the file on your desktop and drop it directly onto the icon for your latest version - which will open ALL SIB files. And, with your latest version open, go to Preferences/Files and click the Repair button indicated in the attachment. It would only be in exceptional circumstances that you'd want to open a SIB file in an earlier version.
Tony, if you deleted all the dynamic parts (for whatever reason) then when you want to open a part, then there are none there to open. I noticed this behaviour myself only the other week when rearranging one of my brass pieces for another ensemble.
As Laurence says, you have to create a full set of default parts using the default settings by clicking on New Part. Then I would use Part Layout->All parts to set up the standard stuff across all the parts at once (Margins, staff size spacing etc).
None of the backgroundy things will print so don't worry about them unless they are offensive to the eye. The orange text/notes/lines are also just to show different physical placement between score and parts (dynamics often move slightly anyway) and the colour does not print.
Have you not used dynamic parts before?

Mike, Well, I think I`m using dynamic parts. I prepared these parts (not the one on display). Now I can`t remember what ver. I prepared this score in, so I just open the score to listen again, before I decide to refresh everything. I don`t think I`ve been using dynamic pts as I just press the parts section and hey presto . . . .
Now I have been having trouble in knowing what version I`m using. Opening anything has been a lottery. I`ll continue this later, I have to go out now.
Yes, you're using Dynamic Parts. They were introduced in Sibelius 4 (2005). Extracted Parts are still available if required, but rarely ARE required. Certainly not in a score such as yours. Anyway, the behaviour you describe is that of Dynamic Parts.
We've been here before, Tony, I think! Your computer doesn't know a Sibelius 6 file from a Sibelius 7, 8 (or whatever) one. It just sees the .SIB extension and opens it in whatever program it has been told is the right one for .SIB files. You could tell Windows to associate .SIB files with Word if you wanted to (but don't!).
There seems little point in having .SIB files open in anything except the latest Sibelius version. Then you can be sure that ANY .SIB file will open OK.
As a corollary to this rule, when sending a score to this forum (unless the topic is a quirk or bug in a particular Sibelius version), or to a user with an unknown Sibelius version, it is sensible to use Export Previous Version to make a Sibelius 7 (or even Sibelius 6) version. Then even people who haven't kept up with the latest updates will be able to open it.

I`ll remember this Laurence - cheers.
And yes, I am still getting a bit confused with how to separate my versions. It is a little complicated - I have two sib 8 on board. 8.5.1 and 8.6. When i start up Sib. I am opening 8.5.1 (I can work quite easily with this version). BUT - when upon first opening, I see the blue logo showing sib together with the NP box. with its version. Don`t for get that I`m clicking to open 8.5.1. but ver 8.6 is shown before it all opens up. So, 8.6 is shown when I click on 8.5.1. CRAZY.
Something is out of sorts and I haven`t a clue how to correct all this.
I`m old and decrepit, and just cannot understand the intial loading instuctions and info, any more. I would like someone to type each stage of preparing my incorrect (installation?) before I open the program.
If this requires some reward, then I`m up for it. I don`t s`pose someone could come to my home to sort this? All expenses paid and a cuppa & a biscuit. I`m in Ashford, near Heathrow. (Not Kent).
I`m extremely obliged and meanwhile, I can continue work on preparing new parts for my score, Emily. To be quite clear (to you - not me) I`m sure it`s all got something to do with having on board Sib 6 and Sib 7.1.3 also. That`s four versions !!!!!!! :))))
Nothing is TOO out of sorts - you managed to open Emily and create a set of Parts, even if their colour did surprise you!
Perhaps I'll have to make that house call. You're within the range of my London Freedom Pass (well, you are if I get off the train at Feltham and do the last bit on the 117 bus).
Laurence, I can pick you up at Feltham station, & run you back afterwards.
Many thanks for your offer. I`m free any days except Tuesdays.
