What's this all about?

Security drives me crazy. Now, for some reason I get this message (attached). And when I klik on a Sib file, the computer asks me which app I want to open it. Gees! It's a friggin' sib file, isn't it?. I've checked the 'Private networks' box on the notice for fear of losing Sib, but don't know if I've done the right thing.

From your description, it sounds as if your Windows installation has been badly messed up. Do you have any idea as to what happened to make all this start happening? These are all Windows problems, not Sibelius problems.

Yes, you need to allow Avid Application Manager and its helper through the firewall: tick all the boxes. But the firewall was configured to allow all this when you installed Avid Application Manager, so it should not be asking again.

To fix the problem when opening Sibelius files, go to Sibelius -> Preferences -> Files -> Repair File Associations -> click Repair.

I've just had a trial version of Dorico installed. My immediate thought was that Avid had spies inside my 'puter and that this was their revenge ;-)

Thanx, Robin for your reply and advice.

Your home network (in your case this probably means just your wi-fi connection) should be set as a 'Private' network. Sometimes it can change to a 'Public' one (more security, more restrictions). This can happen when the network adapter is changed or re-installed, and your network is seen as a new one.

This may or may not be relevant to your situation. For now, tick the 'Private' box and follow Robin's instructions for re-establishing the association between Sibelius and sib files. If everything works, carry on.

With all respect to Robin's vast expertise, I think scaring you with a 'badly messed up' Windows installation is overly dramatic!

Just discovered that my son has upgraded me to 2018.7 (was 2018.5) w'out telling me. My own sib files load w'out hindrance, but downloading sib files from this forum still require being told which app to open in. I guess it's not a major hassle but I've never seen it happen before.
