Tab with stems but no ties?
Posted by bugbuster - 24 May 08:52PM
Regarding tablature, I know about Home/Instruments/Edit Instruments.../Edit Staff Type.../Notes and Rests/uncheck "Rhythms (stems...)", and how that gets rid of ties and stems and the baby and the bath water.

Is there a way to retain stems, dots, and flags while losing the ties and the notes at the ends of those ties?

The result would be information as to when to strike the note, but nothing about the note's duration. I know, I know, bad idea and all that, some say, but it has its uses. Any ideas? Tricks? Subterfuges? Might there be a way to manipulate a midi to achieve this?

Trick:

Use two plugins.

1. Select the tab staff. Run the "Simplify Tied-To Notes"-plugin to select all notes that follow a tie. When the notes are selected – hide them!

2. Select the tab staff again. Run the "Filter Other"-plugin to select the notes that have a tie attached to them. When the notes are selected – press the "tie key" on your keyboard to remove the ties ...

It is all or nothing as far as "Rhythms" is concerned.

Erik's trick is interesting. I don't know that I would have thought of doing that, but I can't think of a better way of doing it short of having a plugin that does those 2 things. There is no such plugin though.

Also, playback will not be correct, if that matters to you. You could silence the tied-to notes and mess around with live durations of the notes that once had ties I suppose.
