Trouble installing the Sibelius Sound Library

Dear all,

The Sound Library that I just downloaded sizes at around 23GB. After downloading the library, I only have like some 1x GB left in my local and the only drive I have.

I am trying to run the installer inside the *.zip file that I downloaded (before unzipping anything), it then starts to unpack the sound content, which I believe is not going to finish properly because I clearly don't have enough space for that.

Apart from doing some cleaning-up (which is a difficult task for me at this point...), or borrowing one external drive from friends, is there anything other way I can get rid of this on my own?

(Btw, I am quite new and I would like to ask if my current version of Sibelius Ultimate 2018.5 is equal to what is referred to as 8.x (I am prompted to state the version when I post this thread)?)

Sibelius 2018.5 is the very latest version of "Sibelius Ultimate", the full fledged program. It includes a bug fix and was released this week.

About the lack of space, try connecting an external HD drive and point to that location when unzipping. One way or another though you'll have to do some house cleaning because the total size of the sounds - about 40GB - won't fit on your computer, even after you remove the temporary download. You'll notice that performance will improve too, with a bit of space to breathe.

Your computer, as it stands, is inadequate to run Sibelius Sounds. One way or another you need more hard drive space.

Funny how this problem has come around twice! When 'big' sample sets first appeared, users with older computers might have been trying to get everything on an 80GB drive (of course the Windows installation was a lot smaller then). Then 1TB storage became standard, even on cheaper laptops. But now we have a breed of computers with super-fast but rather too small SSD drives. (Which may, or may not, be your problem.)

In order to install the Sibelius Sounds sample library, you need about 90GB of free disk space to start with, because of intermediate unpacking.

256 GB SSD is not bad at all, but as you noticed, it is astounding how fast you use up all that space.

I have a 10 year old dedicated DAW laptop with 3 SSD drives, a boot drive of 1 TB, and two sample drives of 2 TB each. I've had to reorganize things so all my problems kept running well over the years.

In the modern digital age housekeeping your computers is one of things that come with the turf ... just make sure your computers are always up to scratch to do the job, get rid of stuff you don't need anymore, back up files, etc.

I suggest you need to not borrow an external drive but buy one!
