A friend asked about how to play back all the notes in a given bar/beat at the same time to step through, for example, a piano piece. Her wanted to hear all the notes in all voices in all staves.

You can't actually do that in Sibelius but this is what I came up with as my best shot, which is to start and stop playback from a selection. So the steps are:

1. Select a single note (not a passage selection)
2. Type P to start playback from the selection.
3. Type Spacebar to stop playback.

You have to time this right but hey, we are all musicians, right?

To replay the same notes, repeat steps 2 and 3.

To go on to the next note type left arrow to move the selection, then repeat steps 2 and 3.

To play at any other point, select a note with the mouse or with the arrow keys, then repeat steps 2 and 3.

An extremely useful and often overlooked shortcut is alt-spacebar (option-spacebar on mac). This "replay" function results in playback from the last place playback began.

In this way, your selection is used just for editing. Alt-spacebar handles playing back the same passage again and again to hear your changes. Much faster way to work.
