Sib 2018.1 Exporting video fails
Posted by Olafur Sigurdsson - 01 Mar 12:04PM
I have been exporting some videos, without problems, but all of a sudden, it fails, even on a files that worked perfectly yesterday.
As soon as I press "Export", I get the message "Video Export / Generating audio" as usually, but Sibelius is playing in the background which should not happen. When the "Video Export / Generating video" should show up, I get "Video Export Failed".
Any ideas ?

Have you tried shutting down and restarting the operating system?

Yes, that was the first thing I tried, two times. I'm running Win10.

Could a recent windows update have broken your audio card drivers?

I don't think Audio/Video Export even touches the computer's audio interface, does it?

I was having the same problem a few months ago with just one particular file, but it started working again after I revised the score & made some alterations. In particular, the file that wouldn't export had a number of fermatas in it with detailed settings for each one set with the Inspector Panel. It started working OK when I removed nearly all the fermatas and replaced them with new, standard, note values and rests that basically had the same duration as the fermatas. I wondered if Sibelius's video export routine may have had a problem reconciling the written music score with the audio export as I was always exporting with the playback line enabled.
The early version of the score also had a large number of time signature changes, the newer version still had quite a few but some were tidied.

As I said in my original message, this behavior started all of a sudden. I do not believe that the SIB files are the problem, as I had created many videofiles without a problem. Now, I can not create videos from any of these files neither on my desktop nor on my laptop.
May be its a Windows problem. I am going to try to uninstall Sibelius and reinstall and see what happens.
How do you do that?
Do I unactivate first or not?
Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the Sibelius Sounds as well ?

- and by the way. I have the same behavior when exporting Audio only. Sibelius starts playing the music when I click Export, but the Sibelius reference page 77 says: "Sibelius exports the audio file off-line".

I don't recommend re-installing Sibelius - I strongly suspect that doing that will not fix your problems. Your problems probably originate in Sibelius Preferences or Settings, which will remain unaffected by a re-installation.

You may verify this theory by creating another user account on your PC, then logging in to that account, and trying Sibelius while logged in under that new account. If that works normally, then we shall know that there is nothing wrong with your Sibelius installation, but just with Sibelius Preferences/Settings in your normal user account.

Robin, you were right; thank you.
By logging into another account, everything is OK.
This has then something to do with the Windows Registry file, where Sibelius preferences seems to by stored.
Next mission: which registry entry causes the problem.
