Sib. 7.5: Keeping Page from moving as I input in Step Time
Posted by Pilotone Music - 11 Feb 04:15AM
I'm rephrasing my previous query, "Keeping Current Position" in case my question wasn't clear. What I want to do is simply to keep Sibelius from moving the page I'm working on (in Step Time) after each input or edit. I literally spend hours dragging the page back to where I was and then finding my place. In the orchestral piece I'm working on, I'm working from top to bottom, not just one instrument and the constant leaping ahead to the next bar or next page is driving me batty. I'm not finding instruction in the Reference Guide. More likely I'm not wording it properly as I search. Please advise!!! Thank you so much. Beth

Have you tried altering these settings?

Mike, I was SO excited, but when I checked, those settings were the exact ones I already had, so it's gotta be something else. Any other ideas? Thanks SO much!

Mike, I FOUND it!! I re-read the "Score Position" paragraph in the manual (you tipped me off on that part), but there's one thing different from your attached example: to prevent Sibelius from repositioning the score automatically, I have to UNcheck "Follow Selection." Once I did that, the score stayed beautifully still. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Will save SO much time (and loss of hair).

Another approach altogether is to perform composition and music entry in Panorama Mode, where there are no pages.

Duh. Makes perfect sense, Robin, thank you! Great alternative, although discovering the Score Position options solved the problem. Grateful to you and Mike and to all my brilliant Sib heads through the years.

Yes, the settings are the ones on my machine and which work for me, but the suggestion was to have a play with them to see if changing one of them would stop the behaviour.

I must admit, I hated even the thought of Panorama mode at first. It seemed as much a schrecklichkeit as piano roll entry. But now I use it a lot - especially when doing chamber music. It avoids so many problems with score/bars moving inappropriately and so on.

Glad you sorted the problem.

Schrecklichkeit!! Now that's a word I'd never associated with Sibelius. It's not even in the Reference Guide. Have to talk to Avid about that. ;-) I did have to Google it, I admit. But now I'm looking for an appropriate place in conversation to use it. Maybe on my regular subway rides? But seriously, Panorama mode is good, although unchecking "Follow Selection" did it for me. Thanks again, Mike and Robin! Beth
