FX in Sibelius
Posted by Rob - 09 Jan 12:36AM
Hello Everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but how do I add FX to a score in Sibelius?

There are four FX "tacks" in Sibelius and I want to add a spatialisation FX to some instruments.

Is this what the FX functions are for in Sibelius? If so, does anyone know how to do this?

Cheers

Rob

See chapter 6.3 of the manual. The ability to add FX to instruments is limited to:

a. 2 FX on the master channel
b. 2 FX on each of four buses.

There's no option to add FX to individual instruments. Before you can add an FX, you have to have it installed in a location where Sibelius can "see" them, see manual.

See screenshot below.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for that. Pity, of course I want to add FX to each instrument.

A work around would be exporting individual instruments as audio and applying that in my DAW, but you can't do that in Sibelius, as far as I know.

I might find it useful for other FX, so thanks.

Cheers

There is a plugin called "Export each staff as audio", which will batch export all of the staffs, and allow you to import them into your DAW.

Alternatively, you could export your Sibelius file as midi and then import it into your DAW, and then add virtual instruments etc. If you're after the best possible playback without having live players, that is probably a better way to do.

It's just an inherent limitation of the mixer. For example, in Dorico you can add effects to each individual instrument. But it is what it is.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for that plugin, works like a beauty. I'll give that a go.

With my DAW and VSTs, unfortunately none of the sounds I own are as good as NotePerformer, so It's better for me to use the audio from Sibelius.

Cheers
