You have many instances of special barlines that look like normal barlines. Delete them and your multirests will repair. At measure 87 your ISMN notice is the culprit. Reattach it to measure 1.

You should almost never use the special bar line that looks like a regular bar line. And now you know one of the reasons why.

As of Sib 8.7.2 Normal Special barlines will no longer break multirests.

Thank you. What do you mean with special barlines? I have not done something special with the barlines.

Sibelius automatically puts in normal barlines. But if you Create>Barline>Normal, then you add a special barline that looks normal but is no longer the automatic default barline, How could you inadvertently do this? You might have a double barline that you want to remove. So you select it and create a "normal" barline. But this creates a special normal barline that will break multi rests. Instead, you want to delete the double barline to get the default barline back.

Unfortunate bit of labelling within Sibelius: there's a 'Special Barline' type called 'Normal'. It can (very) occasionally be useful.

Unfortunate misconception among Sibelius users: if you enter a 'Special Barline' (repeat, double etc.) the way to get rid of it is to enter another barline over the top. No, just select it then press Delete.

What can it be "(very) occasionally useful" for? I can't think of any such occasion.

In the past some people used it for its side effect, to split multrests!

This will no longer work, and besides using Layout > Breaks > Split Multirest is a better (and more visible) way to actively split a multirest.

The splitting side effect has always been annoying. I even have a plugin that just looks for these and deletes them.

You could post the new file here and we could try to see what's breaking the multi-rest now.

By the way, does your fiancée know you're the kind of person who uses special normal barlines? I think she has the right to know what she getting into...

================================

Seems then that this is a redundant feature. Should it not be excluded from the app., or at least issue a warning of its side effects? I can find no mention of its usefulness in the reference manual.

Here is the new file. I have added a bell part and there it appears as 4+8+4 between 9 and 25.

You have text items attached to the Glockenspiel part at bars 13 and 21, explaining both multi-rest breaks.

It was never intentional, and as of 8.7.2, Normal Special Barlines do not break multirests, so that effect is indeed now excluded from the app. Some progress does get made...

Now the Bells part is OK, but I still have trouble with the first bars in the Tambourine part.

You have selected "Split Multirest" after bar 4.
You have staff text attached to bar 8.
