Optimizing Staves Which Contain Cross-Staff Beaming
Posted by Mark Dal Porto - 13 Dec 10:22PM
When “optimizing” staves, I was wondering if there is a special technique one can use when it involves instruments that utilize cross-staff beaming (such as piano & harp). I find that when optimizing the staves of these instruments which have cross-staff beaming, the upper and lower staves are separated much further apart than is necessary. Hence, I was wondering if there is a special method one can use to prevent this from happening.

This is a known bug when optimising staves containing cross-staff notes. No fix I don't think. I use version 6.2 which misbehaves that way, but I don't know if the bug has been fixed in later versions. Others will no doubt chime in.

It still behaves the same way in the latest version (8.7.2). As a workaround, I’ve first been manually adjusting the piano staff vertical spacing (which contain cross-staff beaming) and then optimize the other staves on the same page afterward.

Yes, the workaround I use is the same: simply don't include staves with cross staff beaming in the optimise.
