Chord symbols not transposed in parts (I'm probably the millionth person to ask this)
Posted by abr88 - 04 Dec 01:01AM
(or if you're British, the billionth). My question is about a small section (bars 69-101) of a longer score that includes trumpet and tenor sax. The chord symbols in the in the score unfortunately are not transposed in the parts. When I filter for chord symbols in the parts and transpose them properly, they mess up the chord symbols in the score. I'm happy to re-input the chord symbols in the score in such a way as to make them transpose properly in the parts if someone could kindly tell me how to do that. Thank you!

Oops -- feel a bit foolish here, but the chords in that passage don't even APPEAR in any part other than trumpet -- the rest just have 31-bar tacets - a system text vs/ staff text problem I'm sure.

I'm going to try abandoning the one-staff idea for this passage, and give everyone 32 bars of those slanty quarter notes with chord symbols at the top. Not sure if that will solve the non-transposing chord symbol problem. If you KNOW that it won't, then perhaps you could assist me as requested above. Thanks again.

In your score, the chord symbols are only written on the top staff (unnamed). There are no chord symbols on the trumpet staff in your score, which is why there are no chord symbols in your trumpet part, or any other part other than your unnamed part (which are also hidden in that part too). I think you need to spend some time learning the basics of Sibelius input. In case you are thinking otherwise, chord symbols are not system text.

BTW, in Britain, a billion means a thousand million. It used to mean a million million, but was devalued into American.

OK: So, what I really want is for the chord symbols for these 32 bars to appear in the score only at the top of each system, yet also appear in each part, not only that but transposed in the horn parts! A Utopian vision, apparently. Am I going to have to supply chord symbols on each staff of the score in order to produce the desired result in the parts?

I have actually been using Sibelius quite a lot (albeit not all 365 a year) over the past 4 or 5 years and have spent many hours poring over the Reference (whose pages are now coming loose in a few places -- not luxuriously bound) and posting questions on the forum. (You may draw your own conclusions about my IQ from that information!!) But this is the first time I've needed to incorporate chord changes into a score. Previously it was only in leadsheets, where these "parts" and "transposing" issues didn't arise. Just cntrl+K and off you go. Anyway, thanks a lot for your patience, I appreciate it.

(Please ignore the first attachment; use the second one.) (While you're at it, is there a way to delete an attachment from an already-posted forum post?)

You are given that option when you edit an existing post.
