Sib. 7.5: adding a 300 millisecond delay to a track using Cinematic Studio Strings
Posted by Stephen Martin - 26 Nov 03:08AM
Hi to the forum,

I'm wanting to be able to use Cinematic Studio Strings as a vst instrument in Sibelius.

There is no soundset at the moment. However, I'm going to experiment. There are different legato speeds fro slow, fast etc in this library. If you are using slow, and you want it to be in time with your DAW - you have to move the notes 300 ms in front of the actual start of the original midi note.

Is there some way to do this in Sibelius 7.5?

thanks so much for any advice one can give me here.

Since no one else is answering, I hope this might help..
and more importantly that Im understanding correctly, as this is new to me!

Please see this search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=300+MS+in+musical+time&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1

Especially these pages:

http://www.dvfugit.com/beats-per-minute-millisecond-delay-calculator.php

http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-bpmtempotime.htm

So for example with MM=100 an eight note is 300 ms. So to delay a Sib score for this amount of time simply put an eight rest measure before the music starts.

Is this what youre after?

I dont know what BPM your using, but there are enough explanations in the search I hope to explain it, and this is what you need, as again this is new stuff for me.

Thanks Bob

Other way around I think, Bob. If you have strings with slow attack you often need to bring them in early.

John. As Sib isn't a DAW and doesn't work like one, I think your only option may be to have two scores, one with the notation correct and the other with that strings part written with the notes something like an eighth note early. It will look daft but might play in time. Trial and error needed.

Personally, I'd score in Sibelius and then transfer the MIDI or XML version into a DAW and use its capabilities for playback.
