Can't attach a symbol to the right note

I have a note in Voice 1 that requires an Inverted Mordent symbol. When I highlight the note, press Z, and select the symbol, it attaches to a note in Voice 2. I can't get it to attach to the right note.
To wit, attempting to attach the symbol to the F# in bar 53 of the attached file, Sibelius attaches it to the A below the F#.
What to do? What to do?

Symbols (or indeed any object) do not attach to a note: they attach to a point in the flow of time. I'm unclear as to what you think the problem is.

By the way, I cannot see an F# in Voice 1 in bar 53.

Sibelius is lying to you. Follow the attachment line. Sibelius attached the mordent symbol to a rhythmical position and a voice, not to a specific pitch on the staff as such. The fact that it is blue shows it to be attached to a voice 1 note and the rhythmical position is the same as the F#, so it will play on that note. You will need to drag it into a better position vertically.

Hi there

Select your ornament and type alt-1 to move it from 'all voices' to 'voice 1'. Now, as long as it is attached to the note you want it to be played on, playback should work. (It does for me in version 8.6).

Background:
Symbols are created by default to apply to 'all voices' (the light-blue colour tells you this). For playback of ornaments, Sibelius decided, rightly, that it would be a nonsense to have all voices play them at once, so they have playback apply only to the highest-numbered voice that has a note at that rhythmic location. In your case, that's voice 2.

Once you assign the mordent to a specific voice, it will play back in that voice if there is a note present.

(P.S. For those looking in the file for it: the mordent in question is at the underlying bar 53, which is bar 38 of the Presto.)

I have 8.1.1 for my Mac, so I guess I'll have to manually tweak it. The thing about locking the ornament to a position is that sometimes when you have to squeeze a lot of independently moving voices into one system, you have to use Inspector and increase or decrease X for some notes. The note departs from the position and leaves the ornament behind.
HOWEVER, I just thought of trying this: select both the note and the ornament, then tweak the X value. It works! The ornament stays with the note!
