Sib. First: Two questions - default lyrics font and alternate beats for alternate words
Posted by JamieBear - 17 Nov 09:15AM
I'm brand new to Sibelius and in addition to my own fledgling attempts at arranging one of my tasks is to clean up several handwritten scores my chorus is using. I have two questions that I have spent 5 hours looking at forums and searching for answers.

1. Is there any way to set the default lyrics font to regular rather than italic? I don't care which font it is, as long as it isn't italic.

2. One of our songs that I am cleaning up has alternate words which require an alternate rhythm (see attached clip). Is there any way to notate that in my cleaned up score? I added the alternate words as a lyric line 2. Thanks in advance for helping out this newbie to music notation software.

Was this what you had in mind? *see sample

To the first, that will change the section I am working in, but when I move to a different section, it goes back to italics as the default.

To the second, I have the second line in there, but it has a different rhythm than the first (2 eighth notes in place of a quarter note). I see that I could put the 2 eighth notes in the score then assume my singers know if there is only one word to sing it as a quarter note. Oh, I wonder if I could put the dashed tie in? I'll try that.

Thank you.

There are no global defaults for things like Text Styles. But you can set up a score the way you want it, Save House Style (give it a memorable name) and then Import that House Style into the next existing sib file you open.

Once you start creating new files from scratch, you can save a Manuscript Paper with all your preferred settingd.

Lyrics are typically not italic. Are you sure you are entering Lyrics rather than Expression text (which is italic by default)? Ctrl/cmnd-L is the default shortcut for entering lyrics.

Can you post a score that shows italic lyric? We may be able to fix that.

If you are using Sibelius First, I don't think it can import or export House Styles or create Manuscript Papers. However, if you have a specific style you want you can explain it and someone on the forum would be happy to create a score for you in the full version of Sibelius that you would be able to use in First.

Which version of Sibelius First are you using? (7? 8?)
