Setting the Number of Violins
Posted by Hank - 16 Nov 03:08PM
How can I set the number of each string group (violin I, II, violas, etc.) for playback? The Edit Instrument dialogue box has no place for setting how many of each string group should be playing.
Thanks.

If you are referring to the Sibelius 7 Sounds sample library, then the only two options are "solo" and "ensemble". One cannot define the size of the ensemble.

I think you can in NotePerformer though.

If you want help with a score, attach the sib file!
Also, AutoSave doesn't do what you think. Press Ctrl-S often.

With NotePerformer playback, ~C104,N (N being a value between 1 thru' 8) written in the staff will do this. Works with brass choirs too. I tried it with 48 trombones in 6 parts. Wunderbar!

Now, if we could only take control of NP messing about with our rhythms...

And playback sounds for brush stir and snare roll would be nice. Actually, I find that NP works better (rhythmically) in 8.6 than in 7.1.3. Trouble is, I find 8.6 bloody useless for score editing.

This is something I have totally missed with NotePerformer. Is there a list somewhere of specific commands like this?
