Sib. First: Sibelius First 8.7.0 Default fingering position is on top of note?
Posted by Xiangfeng Shao - 15 Nov 09:17AM
Hi Friends,

I'm using the Sibelius First 8.7.0 to add fingering to my piano score. But I found that the default fingering position is always on top of the note no matter of top staff (RH) or bottom staff (LH). Besides, the fingerings seem not near the note. See my screenshot attached.

I checked the Rules for fingering on Tutorial page 279. It says "In keyboard music, fingerings for the right hand go above the notes, and for the left hand go below the notes. Triplets and other tuplets should be moved to the other side of the notes if necessary, to avoid collisions.
Fingerings are centered horizontally on the notes. Successive fingerings don’t need to line up in a row—they should go up and down following the pitch of the notes, so
that they are fairly near each note."

I know I can use mouse to drag it to any position I want. But I'm looking for a place which allows me change the default setting. I checked some previous articles in the forum. I found that for Sibelius, there is a place to change this. But for Sibelius First, I can't find it.

So I'm wondering if any of you know what to do.

Thank you.

You need the full product, not "First", to configure default positions.

And even with the full product you would need to use the plugin "add fingerins to notes" on input to get the numbers near to the notes. There is no way to automatically shift already input fingerings to positions relative to the vertical noteheadposition , you would also need to set them manually.
To get the fingerings closer to the notes you might have to turn off magnetic layout for the fingerings. I don't know if you can do this in sibelius first for individual objects or only turn off magnetic layout globally.

Thank you, Robin and Kai.

The Magnetic layout can only be turned on/off globally in Sibelius First.

So looks like I can only live with what it is with the First.
