OK, that's good news. So we need to reset some or all of the Sibelius Preferences and settings in your usual account to their default values. Beware: this might result in the loss of your settings and preferences, but not in the loss of any score files.
I will give you a number of options to try, of increasing intervention: try them in order and then test Sibelius, until you find the option that makes Sibelius work. Please, in the following, do not use Search or Spotlight: just follow the paths in the instructions below.
For each step, please ensure that Sibelius is fully quit, and not, for instance, running in the background: if unsure, restart the macOS and do not launch any applications.
Step 1: minimal intervention.
In the Finder, do these:
- while holding down the Option key, pull down the "Go" menu, and select "Library", to open the User Library;
- in the User Library, open sub-folder "Application Support";
- in "Application Support", open sub-folder "Sibelius Software";
- in "Sibelius Software", open sub-folder "Sibelius 6";
- in "Sibelius 6", open sub-folder "Ideas";
- delete all the contents of the folder "Ideas", then empty the Trash.
Try Sibelius: if it is still not working: Step 1b: repeat the above Step 1, but at the last line, delete sub-folder "PlogueEngine" as well as "Ideas".
Now try Sibelius. If it still does not work, ensure Sibelius is fully quit, and then:
Step 2: moderately serious intervention: this step will destroy all your customised House Styles, Manuscript Papers, user-installed plugins, and so on, and revert Sibelius settings to the state they were in when first run after first installation on a virgin Mac.
In the Finder, do these:
- while holding down the Option key, pull down the "Go" menu, and select "Library", to open the User Library;
- in the User Library, open sub-folder "Application Support";
- in "Application Support", open sub-folder "Sibelius Software";
- in "Sibelius Software", rename the sub-folder "Sibelius 6" to "Sibelius 6 backup".
The purpose of renaming rather than deleting is to save all your House Styles, Manuscript Papers, user-installed Plugins, and so on, so that you can manually restore them later.
Now try Sibelius. It will re-create the folder named "Sibelius 6", and populate it with certain sub-folders and files.
If Sibelius now works, you can manually transfer the House Styles, Manuscript Papers, user-installed plugins, from the sub-folders in "Sibelius 6 backup" to the identically named sub-folders in "Sibelius 6".
If Sibelius does not work, it is time for:
Step 3: serious intervention: this will destroy all your Sibelius Preferences and Audio Engine Options:
Ensure that Sibelius is fully quit, then:
In the Finder, do these:
- while holding down the Option key, pull down the "Go" menu, and select "Library", to open the User Library;
- in the User Library, open sub-folder "Preferences";
- in "Preferences", rename the file "com.sibelius.sibelius6.plist" to "com.sibelius.sibelius6backup.plist".
The combination of steps 2 and 3 should have reset your Sibelius to the same state as the one you tried in your newly created test account.
Now try Sibelius.
Please report back on what step made Sibelius work.
