Sib. 7.5: Roll up flexible keyboards
Posted by Jeffrey - 15 Sep 11:12AM
I am short of space and am thinking of replacing my keyboard with a flexible roll up keyboard with USB simply to input notes into Sibelius through playing. Would Sibelius normally recognise this OK or are there likely to be problems?

Thanks

Jeffrey

Sibelius is entirely unaware of the nature of your MIDI keyboard. What matters is whether the keyboard hardware is compliant with the relevant standards for connecting MIDI keyboards to computers: that isn't a Sibelius issue.

I had one once. It wasn't very robust. But it was cheap, so why not give one a try? Horrible to play, having zero key travel. But it worked for note entry.

This one seems to have a most peculiar feature!

"Please note: When playing a first inversion C chord anywhere on the keyboard, the C note sounds as a C#"

I reviewed one of the very first of these to appear many years ago now. Conclusion was that it was useless for practice, but the little 37 note version was great for input on the move with a laptop. Got some odd looks on the bus, though! :)

Cheap, cheerful, does the job. Give one a try and see if you like it!
