Free tuition in Composition, Harmony and Counterpoint
Posted by Terry Dwyer - 14 Jul 12:52PM

I am again making my annual offer of free composition lessons to Sibelius users. I am a well-qualified music teacher, composer and retired orchestral conductor who likes teaching and does not need the money.

I now have room for three or four pupils. Those who apply should be performers of some kind, and preferably have a little keyboard skill. If you are already a composer, you may want a second opinion, or advice on overall form and design.

Above all you should have enough time to send work in to me (by email attaching a Sibelius file) at least once a week. Please do not apply if your life is too busy for this. The course will take many months.

Email me at td@quorndon.com, giving full details of yourself.

Hi Terry,

That is a very kind offer! I believe in 'karma' and so it is good to hear it when someone puts something backing into the universe-system.

I would not be so interested in Composition lessons (as I did it for 8 x hours a day for 5 x years once! - though it was worth it of course). But I would be interested in some help with Sibelius if that was something you wanted to share, please? Although I might end up driving you bonkers with lots of Q's - but your knowledge would be extremely appreciated as I can assure you I would be a dedicated pupil.

However, I am assuming you live in London and I am based up near Liverpool, hence it would have to be via 'Skype', or similar? If it's not for you then please don't worry, it was just a punt!

Hi Paul,

I am not particularly skilled in Sibelius as such, so I don't know why you ask me this - this whole forum is at your disposal, with many experts willing to help.

Terry

Hi Terry,

OK mate, no worries.

I just assumed that you were good with Sibelius because you use it to produce your Orchestration.

Cheers,

Paul
