I cannot activate my annual Sibelius subscription anymore (valid through January 2018). I had to reactivate it from time to time, although it is on the same machine and I didn't change anything in it's configuration. Today the activation failed all the time.
"Activation Failed. 20076:Inactive, obsolete or expired add-on '/my serial/' cannot be added or have copies increased."
Although I still pay monthly. And now I only can start up the non saving mode.
I'm trying it for hours (and looking for solutions in the entire internet) and I got frustrated - in three months there is my Masters exam and I need to modify and write scores for that. It took me ages to find the support form which doesn't include "Sibelius" at all - only Artist Suite and End of Support. The other solution is to call the support hotline in the United Kingdom!!!

I don't know what I did wrong at all and why you spoon-feed your paying customers that way with this ridiculous activation mechanisms. A few months ago I had to work on a piece in a lesson but couldn't save then, because I hadn't internet access and Sibelius couldn't be activated without. Isn't it possible to use an iLok like in ProTools?
I need my Sibelius installation working really really really urgently.

Hi Folks,
I've just bought a new MacBook and can't get Sibelius to run - "There was an error initialising the licensing engine".
I went to the Avid website, but the support system seems to be set up to filter out all but the most patient. i.e. not me!
I assumed that I'd just deactivate Sib on my old Mac and then activate it on the new one (the license doesn't include 2 macs does it?) - but AppMan reckons Sib is already activated and wouldn't deactivate it ("no record of this device was found")
Has anyone had (and ideally solved!) this problem?"

You cannot just "copy the program". You should perform a proper installation, from the Sibelius installation media, or from downloaded installers.

What difficulty are you having in activating Sibelius?

Since this morning my Sibelius won't reactivate. This happened from time to time after Windows upgrades and it was always successful. I follow the steps exactly as outlined in the help file (stop Avid Manager, delete the files, empty the recycle bin, restart, and reactivate). This morning I got the following error:

"Activation Failed: Device ID in license file does not match this machine's Device ID."

I don't understand how this is possible since I deleted all license files. Then I went to my account on the Shop.Avis.Com website and I got a warning from Norton Virus protection that the site was dangerous and had a trojan virus. So I thought maybe Norton is preventing the activation, and I disabled Norton. Still no dice. I don't know what else to do. My license is perpetual and the support expires in 2020. This should not happen and I'm at a loss how to proceed.

I am running Sibelius 8.5.1

Exactly which files did you delete? Give the full path from the root of hard disk and filename. (Don't quote from the instructions: tell us which ones you actually deleted).

C:\ProgramData\Avid\Licenses\FTF -- entire folder
C:\ProgramData\Avid\Licenses\Sibelius 8.0 -- entire folder

I tried one more time later in the afternoon before contacting support and it went through. Still don't understand why I had the problem in the first place but glad that it is solved for now. I must say that this having to reregister the program every time windows has an update is quite annoying.

That doesn't happen. Windows Updates do not affect Sibelius activation.

Please ensure that you are running the latest version of Avid Application Manager: 17.8 at the time of writing.

It's still annoying that I need to do it at least once a week. For a program that I paid a lot of money for a perpetual license, I should not have to do this at all. Quite unacceptable actually.

Jetzt wird das Program ( G7, ist ausgelaufen) als Probeinstallation erkannt und ich soll es neu Anmelden, was aber durch die Meldung das es ein Problem zu Sibelius über Internet gibt. Internetverbindung ist in Ordnung 100%!

G7 is really old, but you should still be able to generate a new registration number via www.sibelius.com/register

We recommend you upgrade G7 to Sibelius or Trade-up to Sibelius Ultimate. There are a few options for you, found here:

I was able to reactivate all function.
What happened ? After transfer of all data to my new SSD
drive, I was able to run G7, but the system shows that the software was not registered so storage of changes/ new files was not possible.
A.) After oppening of G7 the software showed still the
Computernummber and serialnumber of my packeage as
originaly installed .
B.) I Create a new registering number R00.....
C.) After Starting G7 I started the registering process
instead registering via internet I selected via Telephon
or
Fax.adding all required data as shown including the
registering number .
D.) After selecting next I got the confirmation REGISTERED
Now G7 works without restritions.

Hello , I am still would like to use my old G7 .If I am Start to Register I go into the system getting a Register nummber with to recommendation to add this to my G7 software. The problem is I can not find a possibility in G7 were I could add this Reg. Number.
In addition I tried to use a new Sebelius version but unfortunately it seem that it not working with Windows XP.

I sent in evidence, and nothing happened, aside from more notifications of this kind. I added a payslip which worked. Then changed to annual activiation, and downloaded the new software.

Since then, nothing works, and there have been no responses to my requests for support etc. I am not happy paying for this service, so would love it if you could please:
1. help me get the software I am paying for, and
2. change the date that I will need to renew my annual fee, so that I am not paying for nothing as I wait.

Could you fix my issue, please? I started a score while de-activated. It said I could save but didn't seem to be saving -but I saw it in backup scores. I pay this monthly fee for what? Now after restarting Sib NSU not so ultimate, I can't find a trace of the score. Help, please Michael new Mac/Catalina, sib abuser since 2000

I cannot activate my annual Sibelius subscription anymore (valid through Feb 2018). I had to reactivate it from time to time, although it is on the same machine and I didn't change anything in it's configuration. Today the activation failed all the time.
"Activation Failed. 20076:Inactive, obsolete or expired add-on '/my serial/' cannot be added or have copies increased."

Can you help - I have a dead line of arrangements to work on this weekend and I can't wait til Monday to call the support centre. (I've opened a case but I understand this may take 2 business days.

I've deleted the license file and folder and deleted above and the same issues.

Tom,

1. Is this on macOS or on Windows? Version of operating system?
2. What version of Application Manager? If it is not the latest (17.10 at time of writing), please update Application Manager (from within Application Manager) and try again;
3. Please carry out the three "ping" tests in:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/en436075
and advise us of the results.

It's the latest version of Application manager- 17.10 (i reinstalled it today)

The three ping tests worked all came up with ACK

Tom,

In Avid Application Manager, pull down the menu keyed from your Avid ID (normally an e-mail address), and select "Sync Account". When that has settled down and finished, try activating Sibelius again.

If that does not work, pull down the same menu and select "Sign Out", then sign in again. When that has settled down and finished, try activating Sibelius again.

You say you have "deleted the license file and folder". Sometimes Mac users select the wrong Library from which to delete those files and folders. Could you describe the steps you took to locate the license files and folders, so as to verify which Library you were working from: System Library or User Library?

Do you have any Avid products other than Sibelius installed?

Hi, when I run Sib, which is on an annual subscription and Active according to the Avid MyProducts webpage, I get the "Trial Period Expired" dialog and Activating gives me the Activation Failed 20076 error, but other times an error with expiration date must be in the future message. Had to update my credit card details recently, would that be affecting this? Daughter needs to use Sib because she has an exam submission coming up and time is running short! Any help welcome! Thank you! Ian

This might be the cause of your other problem.

This can happen if the PC connects to the internet via a VPN or through a firewall which is preventing the correct operation of Avid Application Manager.

If the PC is using a VPN, then disable it and connect to the internet directly. Then, in Avid Application Manager, sign in (if necessary), then pull down the menu keyed by your e-mail address, and select "Sync Account". Wait for things to settle, then try launching Sibelius.

To check that you have an unobstructed connection to the Avid licence servers via your internet connection, using your web browser, perform the three "ping" tests in:
http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Troubleshooting/en436075

Hi Robin. IDs sorted. Pings OK, got 3 x ACK back. Not using any VPN. This is a domestic windows laptop with windows firewall.

Any ideas? Attempting activation this time yields 20076 error, "...copies increased".

Your earlier post suggested the license was temporary. I presume the support team must have given this to you at some point to resolve some short term license issue. They'll likely advise you to quit Sibelius and Application Manager and delete the licensing files from your machine. When running App Man again, use the System ID and Activation ID in your account at https://my.avid.com/products and you should hopefully find everything will work well.

The Support team are definitely the right people to help you though this.

This is one of the most frustrating activation methods I have ever encountered. I had Sibelius 7.5 and I purchased the upgrade to 8.0.

I have followed the activation steps outlined in this thread but there is no Activation ID number in the My Products page. I can see my System ID number and then underneath that is Auto Activate ID, but no numbers for me to copy and paste into the Application Manager.

I need help! Yesterday I paid $299,99 USD for an upgrade from Sibelius 7.5 to 8.0. I received back a "confirmation letter." Under the section headed "Redemption codes." was an instruction to go to https://my.avid.com/products/redemption and enter a "redemption code." After doing that, I will supposedly be able to get the Sibelius 8.x downloaders and download/activate my software.

**BUT there is no "redemption code" or any code in my confirmation letter, or anywhere else in my Avid Master Account. Looks like Avid has totally screwed up their upgrade process.

So how can I get the code(s) I need?

I'm currently running Sibelius 7.5 on a brand-new iMac with OSX Sierra 10.12.6.

I transferred Sibelius from an older Mac Pro using Apple Migration Assistant. Sibelius 7.5 has continued to run, with some problems. But at this point I want to get on with v. 8.0 and not bother about 7.5.

I can provide all kinds of system repots about this machine, if asked.

I'm unable to register Sibelius 8 in a new PC, despite having deactivated the installation on the previous PC. The App Manager says "Seat count failed on System ID: xxxxx".

Please give full details of what happens when you try to activate. Give the full text of any messages that occur, or a screen-shot of them. Check that you are using the correct System ID and Activation ID.

All Id's are correct.
Another problem: the png file from the screenshot can't be attached...

First Error:
"License Renewal not successful. 101 Subscription renewal. Expiration should be a future date."

second error:
"Activation Failed: 101 Activation Failed. 20076: Inactive, obsolete or expired add-on " XXXX-XXXX-XXXX" cannot be added or have copies increased.

Thomas, have you checked that you are using the correct "System ID" and "Activation ID"? Which application is producing this error message? It does not look like Sibelius.

Other things to try are:
1. Shut down the operating system and restart, then try Sibelius again;
2. Make sure that your PC has unobstructed access to the internet, and that there are no firewalls or VPNs that are limiting access.

Hi, I'm getting an "activation failed" message. 101 activation failed 20076. I've also gotten a couple of the "future date" error messages too. They've each popped up as I've continued to try different things to activate the software today.

Using Sibelius & Application Manager.

Like others here, I've had to reactivate it from time to time, but today the activation has been a failure no matter what I do.

From my angle, it simply looks like my recurring payment isn't crediting right away, so the system thinks payment is still due, when in fact it's an automatic payment that's already posted.

I've tried restarting, I've updated the app, I've cleared the library files and restarted, I've filled out a support ticket.

I've been messing with this for hours now. I have work to do, and I depend on Sibelius.

I love you all for what you do, but this is really frustrating.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I just renewed my subscription, but the application manager is still showing "your plan is expiring soon", even after deactivation and reactivation. I got an order confirmation mail from avid which shows the correct price and a "SKU" Number. But doesn’t show "Renewal System ID". Its just empty. Also empty fields are Payment Method, Credit Card Type and Card Number. What can I do?

I want to use Sibelius on my new iMac. So far I use Sibelius on my MacBook Pro. As far as I know I can use Sibelius on 2 computers. But when I start Sibelius on my iMac I get the error message to renew the licence but I don't want to loose Sibelius on my MacBook Pro. What exactly do I have to do?

I could not create a case because I could not find Sibelius there.

And the Avid application manager didn't let me sign in this time but it didn't help yesterday either.

I beg your help.

Please give the precise wording of the message, or a screen-shot of it.

Meanwhile, you definitely need to be able to log in to Avid Application Manager using your Avid credentials.

Is the computer fully online to the internet? For instance, a connection via certain VPNs is not good enough, and being behind certain commercial firewalls is not good enough.

I should deactivate Sibelius and then activate it.

The internet connection is Ok. I have no special firewall. Maybe the one of apple itself. No VPN installed as far as I know.

Of course not: that is on a different computer, with its own activation.

Just follow the instructions in the article referenced, to execute the three "ping" tests in your web browser.

I can't get Sibelius to run. The application manager doesn't let me log in (error service not available) and deactivating in order to activate under licence tab doesn't work either.

I recently updated my credit card information and now I get the notification "Currently unable to reach Avid license server" numerous times a day. In my application manager it says "License renewal Not Successful: 101 Subscription Renewal. Error: Expiration should be a future date" I tried to view my billing information in case it means that I entered my credit card expiration incorrectly, but when I click on "update" under Billing Info, I get a blank window. I can still access my Sibelius program but the notifications are driving me nuts.

1. Check that your computer has unrestricted access to the internet, and is not connected via a VPN, or behind a firewall.

2. Check that your computer's clock is set to the correct date and time, in the correct time-zone.

I cannot activate a Sibelius 2018.1 upgrade ("101 Activation Failed, Seat count failed"), though I have two current perpetual licenses and only one copy of Sib 2018.1 activated (on another machine).

AvidAppMgr says my Sibelius 8.6 is activated. When I try to open it, only the first splash screen comes up, and nothing else happens.

I spent an hour with a tech agent with no luck. He concluded Sib8 could not find a file, and/or the computer needs reformatting.

Funny, Sib8.6 on my other computer also stopped working at about the same time (likely between December 2017 and March 1)

Does anyone have a clue as to the cause of this problem, and a possible solution?

It wont allow online activation so I went through the steps for manual activation. But when I opened the .bin file in Sibelius it says the device code I entered does not match. I suspect that when I pasted it into the textbox it may have clipped off the last 4 digits as the text box was too short for the Device ID.
I cannot see where to deactivate and try again. Any help would be appreciated.

I am unable to activate a copy of my Sib.7.5 (which is an upgrade from Sib.6) on a second computer. I only get a message that no contact can be established with the Avid server, and that I should check my internet connection.
My internet connection is perfect!! (I use it every day).

Which may have been a clue that the spaces should be omitted when entering a Device ID. :-)

Hi there,
I am moving a Sibelius user from a windows laptop to a Macbook Air.
I have downloaded and installed the Mac version of Sibelius 7 First.
I have deactivated the software on the old laptop.

When I open Sibelius 7 on the macbook and click Activate I get an error saying "Sibelius 7 First cannot be activated now. Please try again…"

But if I open Sibelius 7 on the OLD laptop and click Activate I get the correct Activation screen. The old laptop says "your trial has ended" so from this I assume that it has successfully deactivated?

Can you please help?

Is anybody having the problem that after upgrading to Sibelius Ultimate it says you need to renew your subscription, you do that, deactivate, reactivate, restart, - nothing works!!!! I think I'm going mad. I'm even writing horrible run-on sentences with bad grammar... Can anybody help?

My copy of Sibelius is listed as activated in Avid Application Manager, but when I try to save my score I get the message "This feature is disabled because Sibelius isn't activated. To activate, choose File > Help and click the Activate Sibelius button."

When I follow those instructions, I get: "Unable to start AvidApplicationManager (/Applications/Avid/Application Manager/AvidApplicationManager.app). Please verify that AvidApplicationManager is installed correctly."

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the application manager but still get the same message. I can't restart Sibelius without losing all the changes to my score. How do I fix this?

I am attempting to re-image a machine for one of my staff members and I'm following the FAQ for moving from device to device, but I am unable to deactivate my Sibelius 7.1 product so I can re-install after I re-image. Thoughts? I always seem to have issue with licensing and moving them around, even when I have the ativation ID and system ID. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have Sib 7.5 on Windows 10 and today it replied that there was a problem with the licence - delete the licence folder and start again. That brought me the message that it could not find the licence server. Help suggested offline activation, but that asked for a "device id" (which I did not know) and given the System and Activation Id there should be a pop-up window telling me how to get the device id - but the window did not pop up. I tried downloading the latest activation manager, but that didn't help.
I am completely discombobulated !

Did Windows 10 just perform a big upgrade to version 1803? That will have changed the Device ID and therefore invalidated your previous licence seat. To avoid this happening in future, always de-activate Sibelius before a Windows feature upgrade, and re-activate afterwards.

You will need to get Avid Registration Support to sort you out:

Maybe a little alarmist! My two Sibelius registrations have survived several Windows upgrades, both major and minor. And, we must presume, so have everyone's, else we'd be flooded with complaints!

I have Sibelius 7 and I cannot reactivate it after it stopped working and your site told me to delete my Licenses file. Not only is the reactivation server not working but the workaround is also now not working and I'm being told that my System ID is not valid.

You can turn off notifications by clicking Sign in > Preferences on AppMan then uncheck "Show Application notifications".

I just updated to the ultimate version and it says in my manager that the license is good and it is activated. When I start Sibilius it says it needs to be activated and then I follow that and it says I need to restart Sibelius. I'm caught in an endless loop. I have restarted my computer and the problem still persists.

I have the same problem as Martin. I had a perpetual license for Sibelius First 7 but i am now on Ultimate with a subscription and it keeps sending me back to activation, Also stop in a loop. Note that my Avid account is under philmius@gmail.com

Great, I thought. Black Friday might be a good time to upgrade from 7.1.3. First of all I now have to have some kind of Master Account and then my system ID is not recognised. There is no offer on teacher subscriptions in any case. So many slightly different subscriptions or purchases.Why?????

For the life of me, I cannot understand why Avid make the mere purchase or renewal so complicated. It's as if they really don't want to sell anything at all. Dorico, with Steinberg's horrible elicenser is no better.

I would almost prefer to buy an inferior product if it could just work and avoid these issues.
I don't have any such problems with either Microsoft Office subscriptions or Adobe Creative Cloud or Apple subscriptions. They all just work with minimal complexity.

Suffice to say I have not upgraded anything.

Thanks Sam. However, I'm told my System ID is invalid. Whilst trying to purchase the upgrade I go to identit-e and my proof of eligibility is already there and it has my product details correctly stored. However, this doesn't help me get the upgrade confirmed and paid for.

Thanks for your help but this needs to be a lot slicker. I seem to remember there is some issue with 7.1 throwing up this Invalid ID error.

Well I finally achieved Educational verification but have now returned to having my System ID rejected and have gone around in circles for the past few hours. I have sent off a request for help. I am an experienced user of software including Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office but I have never encountered such a series of minefields and dead ends when simply attempting to achieve a simple upgrade. I wish I had never started. Can I get a refund at this stage?

My issues have been resolved overnight, as promised. Support from Sam and others has been excellent. At the end of a time-consuming experience I'm still left wondering why Avid insist on making everything less than straightforward. With Adobe I still simply need a username and a password. As far as I am aware, they have no increased problems with pirating.

One of the reasons I decided to stay with Sibelius was because of the elicenser used by Dorico and the constraints it imposes. Companies ask you to fill in surveys and ask what you don't like. With Steinberg it's the lack of 2 installations and the wretched elicenser. They choose to ignore this despite many customers finding it restrictive.

In the 21st century there have to be easier and better ways for customers to confirm their right to access software.

Despite all this I am happy to be upgraded and thankful that Avid still have people like Sam who has offered me superb support throughout all the hassle. For those who are interested, neither my legitimate System ID or Activation ID could be made to work by anyone at Avid and both had to be changed. After that everything worked within minutes.

The Avid Application Manager has deactivated my subscription to Sibelius (educational), and it says "License renewal Not Successful: 225 This product doesn't support renewal" when I try to activate it. This is nonsense as it was renewed in the summer, as confirmed when I log into my Avid account online. I am also getting Windows (10) messages every 5 minutes saying "Licence renewal not successful - currently unable to reach Avid License Server and will attempt to renew Sibelius later". Similar messages have been appearing for the last couple of days. And now I seem to be locked out from Sibelius. This sort of thing occurs every few months - it is extremely irritating (as I see it is for countless others, too!).

Can you help, please?

So I downloaded Sibelius from MyProducts and got an error message : 101 Activation failed. Total device count exceeded .

thanks Ingrid, I have now replied hopefully ive put everything I need in the email, I know you are trying your best but I really find its next to impossible to get things resolved quickly, as I am not able to be at a computer from 9-5. I tried to speak to someone and it just said everyone is busy and leave a message, I didn't because I only had a short period of time when I could have been at a computer where I could take the actions suggested. I really think you should up your support and make it easier to contact someone personally.

can anyone tell me how I lodge a complaint about the service, I have been promised to be called back to remote onto my pc at a time that suits me, I got asked when, and after I told them ive not had a reply for almost 2 weeks, what was the point of asking if the representative disappears off the face of the earth? I really wonder why I keep paying into this when all I get is terrible service.

Hi,

I am a SysAdmin at a School, and we have just replaced laptops for an entire grade. None of the students whose laptops were replaced deactivated their Sibelius First license prior to getting a new device, because we didn't foresee this issue. I suspect the number is around 15-20 students who are effected.
The students aren't going to, one-by-one, contact support via phone. Can I please get an email address I can forward them (I will be drafting them a template email to send through) so they can individually get their issues resolved?
I don't have any of their account details.

Reading this list of sorry tales I wonder why licensing and activation are so fraught in 2019. Would two-factor authentication sort it? All the music notation companies seem to have these issues but I have no such problems with subscribing to Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft office on both Windows and OS X platforms. Like others here, I had problems upgrading my copies of Sibelius recently. Sam was very helpful and everything's fine now ... until the next time! There has to be a better way!

Hi! I purchased a one-time version of Sibelius through my highschool a little over a year ago, and am having some licensing issues. I have tried re-installing Avid Link and Sibelius, but no luck. It says "Your version of Sibelius has expired" but now said the device limit has been reached. I only have it installed on 1 computer, though I have deleted and redownloaded it a few times.
Is there anything else I can do? The reactivation process always times out.

I suddenly got a message that"Sibelius has detected your update and support plan expired o 2/17/2019. To use this version of Sibelius, you will need to renew your update plan".
It came out of the blue. I have renewed my license till Feb 17, 2022, and I did this several months ago. And besides if my supportplan really did expire 2/17/2019 I should be able to use my version 2019.1 anyway!
In my Avid Link it shows two "lines" with "Sibelius" and "Sibelius Ultimate" The først can't be deactivated (but won't open!) and the latter can't be activated.When I try to follow the procedure for activating the program it sais I have to "start Sibelius again to finish the activation process - and the it all starts again - "Sibelius has detected.......
Help this is a nightmare

I have upgraded today from Windows 7 to Windows 10, and my Sibelius 8.5 won't activate. I followed all the advice about deactivating and reactivating, but every time I try to start Sib I get the same message - error initializing the licensing engine. copy needs to be reactivated.
I've looked through many of the messages in the thread but don't find straightforward advice about fixing it. Please help - I am in the middle of an important and time-threatened job.

I am trying to activate sibelius ultimate on my device, and to activate it, I need to get all my ID's, and whenever I go to Avid link, it tells me to sign in, and every time, it takes like 3 minutes of loading, and then it tells me, "unknown error."

Sometimes this fixes "Unknown Error":
- in Avid Link Preferences, uncheck "Anonymous data collection".

To reach Avid Link Preferences:
- on Windows, in the System Notification Area ("Show hidden icons" on the task bar), right-click the Avid Link icon and select "Preferences";
- on macOS, click the Avid Link icon in the Menu Bar, and select "Preferences".

You can obtain your System ID and Activation ID from your "My Avid" account at:
http://my.avid.com/products
The Activation ID is shown adjacent to the Sibelius download link (click "Show" to show the download links).

Hello Support-team. After moving to a new Computer I am not able to reactivate Sibelius Ultimate 8.5 on the new machine. The procedure to deactivate it in Avid Link is not working, because "No record of this device was found" Please help, because I need Sibelius as soon as possible

This is just an early notification alert of your subscription expiry date. Please note that there is a grace period in which you have to renew your subscription in order to avoid paying a much larger fee in case you miss the due date.

I guess this question would be for Sam or Ingrid. If I click on the "Auto Renewal" in my link would I be subscribing to the 3 year deal or do I need to go to my Avid account to manually accomplish this?

It would depend on the subscription plan period (1-year or 3-year) you initially availed. It would be safer if you do this on your My Avid account.

I have Sibelius 7.1.3
I have upgraded my laptop Hard Drive with an SSD
Sibelius now won't activate because of the different hardware.
Says: "too Many installs"
Can Tech support remove my previous install record so I can reinstall and activate again?

Hi,
I have Sibelius on an iMac. The subscription has auto renewed a few days ago and now I cannot open Sibelius. I get the 'Welcome to Sibelius From Avid' splash screen and am invited to activate Sibelius using Avid Link. I click on Sibelius in Avid Link and just get the little wheel turning round and round. The system ID and my activation code from when I started my subscription are shown but status is shown as unavailable. My system ID is 10433004280. Help! I have scores I need to finish.

Hi,
Sibelius now opens!
I tried syncing the account.
I tried disk repair on the iMac
Avid link shows the version installed but has active download buttons. For Sibelius I had 2019.5 (latest) installed so I tried downloading again and installing. I then synced the account and Sibelius activated. Low and behold Sibelius now opens.
Ever since Avid Link was introduced it has been flaky - repeatedly having to sign in, showing downloads available when the latest version is installed and now this problem.

Thanks to me for fixing the problem

Hello!
I need to fulfill an urgent order, so I additionally took the work home, because the office does not have enough time. I signed up for one month of Sibelius Ultimate for Windows 7 Max SP1 x64 home computer. Sibelius displays the message "Your 30-day trial for Sibelius has ended" and does not start. My subscription is valid until July 08, 2019. I have a job to do right away. Burning! Help, please!

Did you ever activate Sibelius on this PC?

Please open Avid Link, and ensure that you have logged on with your Avid credentials on its "Profile" tab. Then please attach a screen-shot of Avid Link on its "Products" tab.

Thank you, Laurence Payne, for the warning. Apparently, the moderator already deleted. However, I did not see the danger, because I myself can not run Sibelius. :) And the license numbers are also useless - they will not be inserted.

Do not launch Sibelius.

Launch Avid Link, ensure that you are signed in on the Profile tab, and then, on the Products tab, activate Sibelius Ultimate, using the System ID and Activation ID supplied to you. Activation does not happen by itself, it is something that you have to do. If something happens in Avid Link that prevents activation occurring, then show us a screen-shot of that problem.

Only attempt to launch Sibelius after activation has been completed in Avid Link.

I have logged in to my avid Link account, but the Activate button in Avid Link is not available, although my Sibelius Ultimate subscription is shown.
I have a suspicion that Avid Link is not working correctly. This is confirmed by the fact that the Downloads folder is created on disk C in ProgramData, but I do not have such a folder on disk C, because I moved it to disk D. I have two different physical disks. All the profile folders in my drive D. Drive C, my SSD is 80GB and on it only the OS without any unnecessary folders and files. I am not satisfied if Avid Link will download my distributions to the system drive C. If the developers decide to upload to the public profile, then there is an environment variable %ALLUSERSPROFILE%, and it is not necessary to write an explicit path in the code "C:\ProgramData". Perhaps for this reason I do not start Sibelius.

PS: After installing Sibelius Ultimate, Avid Link does not display information that Sibelius is installed.

If you are unable to complete activation in Avid Link, then I suggest that you open a case at Avid Registration Support at:
http://avid.force.com/Support/RegistrationCaseCreation
Take the "Audio" route through the product selection menus.

You do not need a System ID in order to download a product.

The SystemID and ActivationID are needed only to activate a product. They are both given to you on the same web page as contains the download links:

I downloaded Sib ultimate; by launching Avid Link I get the activation number, I entered also the device nr. which are both accepted, but I still can't find the system ID I'm asked for. It is definetely NOT on the "my products" page. Thanks for further help!

I was advised to delete
C\:ProgramData\Avid\Licenses\Sibelius and then restart Sibelius 7.5.

I did so and was told that it was not activated and I am now on the 20-day trial.

Please help me to get my activation restored.

Yes, that would be the natural consequence of deleting the licence folder.

LICENSE SEAT RESET PLEASE
I have had a license error where its asked me to manually deactivate Sibelius then reactivate, of course now the stupid server thinks ive overdone my seat count please reset it. Im really not happy that this keeps happening everytime the license decides to have a hiccup surely you can do better than this.

This is really frustrating because I was using Sibelius two days ago with no issues, then I went to open it back up to continue working and I got the message that I had to reactivate my licence. Which of course is why I am where I am now. I have tried calling support but of course no help there. Are there any other courses of action I can take, other than just purchasing another licence?

I'm having an issue reactivating Sibelius 8.5.1 on a MacBook Pro after I had to restore the hard drive.

Sibelius 8.5.1 gives a licensing error.

When I try to deactivate Sibelius 8.5.1 to start reactivation, Avid App Manager throws an error: "Failed Deactivation: 0 Deactivation OK. No record of this device was found"

Removal and reinstall of both Sibelius and App Manager does not fix issue. Issue occurred after Apple replaced SSD and restore from Time Machine.

Any help you can provide to fix the issue would be appreciated.

Hi,
today I renewed my license to Sibelius Ultimate with a EDU Reduction. I entered my activation- and registration numbers and now my copy is shown as activated for one year.
But now the problem is, that I don't find a place, where I can prove my eligibility for the EDU-Discount nor do I find a Code, which I can enter in ident-e. Could someone please help me?

I can't open Avid Link on my PC. The App is installed and visuable in the task monitor. I can click on the icon, it asks me if changes can be made - yes - and then it stops.
This seems to be the problem with my installation described above. I had a talk with the german distributor who, but I need to get Link started to finish my installation.

I wasn't sure if this was the correct place to ask for activation help, so I already posted a request on the main board.
Here's what's happened: I gave Sib Ultimate a try, decided no, and uninstalled it. Now my 7.5 is asking for activation, but rejects my System ID and Activation ID. I have no idea how to regain my Sib files. Please help.

why does my activated version of Sibelius keep getting corrupt activation then I have to manually remove the license folders then I have to constantly ask you to refresh my seat count as avid link still thinks that copy is activated. I am getting so fed up with this, please reset my seats asap. and spend the money on improving your licensing system.

It's just a question of working out what it is that provokes this, and then try to stop that happening. Something is causing the apparent identity of your Mac to change.

For instance, do you plug and un-plug external network dongles to get onto the internet, or to get onto a corporate network?

Do you run a VPN client to connect to remote networks?

it is on the pc, and yes I use vpn but this was happening before I used it. I have had some issues with an m.2 drive not showing up or disappearing when it gets hot, it could be this I suppose. I have recently updated the firmware of the m.2 drive and it now seems to be ok. Sibelius is however not located on this drive at all. I really think this is terrible though because you used to be able to use Sibelius in non save mode under these conditions and now I cant do anything till an avid rep is available which is ridiculous. ive had this happen over many computers so I think its a bug personally.

That is likely to be part of the problem. The appearance and disappearance of the virtual network card associated with the VPN makes Avid Link think that the identity of the PC has changed, and so the copy-protection violated.

sorry for the delayed answer. I could sort my problems out with the help of the german provider and some internet research. I think that the audio driver from yamaha/steinberg on my system prevented avid link to run. Now everything is fine....

Hello! I keep receiving the following message: “Sibelius has detected a problem with your product activation. Your copy of Sibelius now needs to be manually deactivated and reactivated.” However, when I try to manually deactivate it, I get a message saying "No record of this device was found." I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and still the same message. Any idea what I need to do? Thank you!

I have been trying to activate Sibelius on my new laptop, but have been constantly encountering the "101 Activation Error. Total device count exceeded" problem. I deactivated Sibelius on my old machine, and it is only activated on one other computer so I was hoping it work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never seen a more useless support system when it comes to deregistering Sibelius. My dread with getting a new iMac (which I should be excited about) is that EVERY TIME it comes to deregistering and reregistering Sibelius it is a nightmare!

Look at how long this list of people for this post is here.

Avid Manager doesn't accept my password, I apply for a new one and the manager goes blank.

...and it brings me to a forum.

I call the phone # and they ask by for a Support # (which I don't have, of course) and then don't tell by how to get one.

I go to MY AVID ACCOUNT and there is no clear path to deactivation.

Jesus, can't you hire ONE person for a chat line or phone calls and allow us to reach them without jumping through hoops!

I will deactivate all other programs and wait for a response but will probably end up deactivating for the new computer.

SHEESH!!!

Happy Ending!

Jens from Sibelius support called me and put us on screenshare for both my older and newer iMac.

He deleted the cashe from the App Manager so I could log in and deleted the license to deregister Sibelius from my old iMac and then registered Sibelius on the new iMac.

Jens was knowledgable, efficient and polite. Thank you for the great support Ingrid, Jens and Sibelius!

Sibelius 8.6, Perpetual License

At the moment I am unable to use Sibelius because the 2020.1 update won’t activate my app. Have to wait until support gets back to me.

I’ve used Sibelius for years but this situation reminds me of Cubase many years ago. I paid £400 in the 90s for Steinberg’s Cubse Audio. It came with a dongle that you had to plug into the printer port in order to use the software. Absolute pain if you wanted to work on a different computer you had to unscrew it and move it.

Guess what many users did?
Bought a legitimate copy, then downloaded a pirate copy that worked without a dongle.....

Same situation with Sibelius: the program is great, but I can’t actually do my job or earn money at the moment because of the licensing process.

I also have the latest version of Finale: all you need is a serial number and there was no subscription to buy.

Same with Dorico. I’m so frustrated with Avid I investigated the cross grade option to Dorico: under £200 for the pro version with no subscription and just a serial number.

I love Sibelius but surely it shouldn’t be this stressful as a customer.

It seems that a lot of users have similar problems with Activation and Licensing. My specific problem is that my version of Sibelius Ultimate (2020.1), gives me a window when I try to open it (am attaching a screenshot). It seems to not recognize my license, but when I click the option to "Activate", it takes me a dashboard called "Avid Link" where it asks me to sign into my account.

Unfortunately, I must have misplaced my password, but when I reset the password, and enter the new password into the form, I get a message below the sign-in form that says "Unknown Error". (Another screenshot attached.)

Please help? I don't appreciate paying for a product that I am locked out of, esp. when that product contains creative work... if I don't resolve this issue in one week, I will have to switch to another music engraving software, because Avid seems ridden with complications and moving parts that make even the simplest of actions (opening the program) impossible.

Hi - Our available license doesn't show up in the manager; I wanted to transfer my work from one computer to the other, and now I can't work on any of them.
I already created yesterday the case 03882682, but it's still in the qeue, and meanwhile I need to continue my work.
And today, Link can't connect to the server, it just says "There has been an error. Oops! We apologize for the inconvenience, ..."

I uppgraded to Sibelius 2020.
But can`t activate it.
Avid Link opens, I`ve signed in and can write SYSTEM & ACTIVATION ID but "Active" button won`t react.
Asked help from Avid but no answer.

Because of the corona, I need to teach Sibelius from home, so I need to have it urgently.

I have a subscription with Sibelius Ultimate and was trying to renew it (expires 3/28/20). I purchased the renewal via Sweetwater Sound and what I received from them is a download card. I have followed to the letter Avid’s directions for renewing via a download card (found at www.avid.com/downloadcard). I am definitely typing in the correct code on the card, but when I click “Activate Product” the response I keep receiving is “Sorry, the code you provided may be invalid.”

I have contacted Sweetwater, but they don’t know what could be wrong. 8 days ago I submitted a case to Avid regarding this issue (Case #03905421) but have received no response from them. It would be nice if I could get some assistance with this.

On the box, it says: For Education. Only for students, teachers and institutions. Annual Subscription. (My account has been verified for Academic Eligibility until Jan. 17, 2021.)

BUT you are not on an Annual Subscription, are you?

You said you had a Perpetual Licence, and wanted to renew the Support and Update Plan. That's not an Annual Subscription.

Yes, I have both a Sibelius Ultimate perpetual license and subscription. Avid Customer Care has now contacted me via email. Their email says that I successfully activated my perpetual license to May 2023 but I had done that quite some time ago. What I'm trying to re-activate is my subscription which expires in 3 days. I sent Customer Care my subscription System ID and subscription Sibelius Activation ID.

Again, your help is much appreciated.

P.S.: For whatever reason, the download card activation code is not accepted at https://my.avid.com/products.

I've used Mac's Migration Assistant to transfer Sibelius Ultimate from an old Mac to a new MacBookPro and am now getting a message that says I have to deactivate and reactivate it, but the link for help provided doesn't work. I've tried reentering my activation code to no avail, and when I go to Avid Tools Products, it just says that Sibelius is already activated. What do I do?

I bought Sibelius Ultimate on April 24, 2020. I paid $199 in full on my credit card. Each day my Sibelius screen shows "You have XX days if your 30-day trial remaining." I have tried without success to make that message go away by following the instructions to activate my Sibelius Ultimate. Please see the attached screenshot.
I fear that Sibelius Ultimate will not work after the "30-day trial period" notwithstanding it is bought and paid for.
As a precaution I have initiated a Disupte Transaction with my credit card bank in order to claw back my $199 if Sibelius doesn't work. I really hope not to do this because I want this software. It is key to keeping my sanity for me in this lockdown.

Yes I did restart my iMac with the same result. Each time it starts, Sibelius puts up the dialog about Activating. The only way I can run Sibelius is to click the left button (continue trial period). Then it runs. Today it is telling me I have 9 days remaining.

Hello, I have Sibelius 7 on CD's, purchased and used very well on 2 Macs since 2013, the 2nd Mac has had an issue and had to have the hard drive wiped and a complete re-load of OS (newest one was loaded "Catalina), the program loads ok but the activation process isn't working say there is a licence issue and the activation code is already in use, ive downloaded the avid link and looked in as master account, this doesn't really show anything. I've emailed the ident licence people and they say our licenses and codes should still work, they don't
Can point me in the right direction please. Thanks

Sibelius 7 is incompatible with Catalina and so is Avid License Control.

If you wish to continue using Sibelius 7, you must wipe your Mac and install a macOS older than Catalina.

If you wish to continue using Catalina, then you must acquire the latest version of Sibelius Ultimate.

I'm having issues with Sibelius - I had a previous version and was offered a discount for two years on their Sibelius Ultimate Crossgrade. I accepted and paid, and Avid Link shows that it is activated, but when I click on Sibelius Ultimate there, or the Sibelius icon on the computer, I get "your 30-day trial for Sibelius has ended" with a link to open Avid Link, where the whole thing begins again.
I would love to use the software I purchased. Any ideas?

Your issues are in fact with Avid Link, not Sibelius.

Please pull down the Apple menu, and select "Restart".
After the restart has completed, wait for about 5 minutes.
Then pull down the Avid Link menu (from the Avid Link icon in the top menu bar), and select "Show".
In Avid Link, on tab Profile, sign in with your Avid credentials, and then wait another 5 minutes for your account to finish synchronising with Avid servers.
If an update is shown as available for "Avid Link", then perform that download, then perform that update, and start again from the sign-in.
Then, in Avid Link tab "Products", on the row for Sibelius Ultimate, pull down the menu keyed from the down-arrow, and select "Licenses".
In the Licenses panel, first de-activate your old license for Sibelius Ultimate.
Then click "Use License" for your new Sibelius license, from the cross-grade.

Only when you have activated your new license for Sibelius Ultimate should you try launching Sibelius.

On that same day my academic Eligibility was verified by Identit-e and granted.
Now, there is a message on my account (a banner) that says the my academic eligibility for my account will expire on June 28, 2020.
There is also a message on my Sibelius Ultimate account page that there are 25 days left for my existing software updates en support plan (it als o expires on June 28, 2020).
According to the the Avid Knowledge Base (Academic Eligibility Reverification), I meet the conditions to see the "Reverify Button" on the specific product page (so my Sibelius Ultimate account page). The problem is, there is not such a button displayed. I would like to reverify my academic eligibility, but I can not do that.
What do I need to do to solve this problem?

This is the WORST software that I have EVER had to deal with. I have had a monthly subscription for several years now; my subscription is activated according the the Avid account section. When I try to launch the product, it keeps telling me to activate the product (it's already supposedly activated). It then says it will launch the Avid Link to "finish the activation," and then comes back around again to tell me I need to activate the product (which is already activated).

Will this problem ever be fixed? All I want to do is sit down with my laptop, start Sibelius Ultimate, and work on music. The product is actually pretty good, but just getting it to launch and getting support of any kind is a NIGHTMARE. Why is this such a huge hassle? I have been loyal to Sibelius for years, hoping the company will work out the kinks, but to no avail.

The support system is inscrutable, and you can't call in and get anyone anymore (supposedly because of Covid19, although my company and many others have seemed to figure out how to do business). I am truly at the end of the line after spending literally thousands of dollars over the course of the years. Please make this work so I can at least access my compositions and get them to another software company that may be more expensive, but at least is reliable.

Hi, just a quick and probably silly question.
Yesterday, the cost my renewal plan (£96) was automatically deducted from my credit card, so I'm now ok till next June.

My question is: should I now turn off auto-renewal? Although I hadn't thought of it before, it just occurred to me that if I died, or became so incapacitated that I couldn't communicate with her, my wife wouldn't have a clue about the details of this yearly bill and might have failed (for whatever reason, e.g. illness herself) to do anything about my credit card.
So next year the money would be deducted again if auto-renewal is left on. So, to repeat, would I be safest to turn it off now that it's been paid for the coming year?

I have a paid up Sibelius Ultimate but I have been unable to activate the software. Since no one is available in the Sibelius Support Area due to COVID-19, there's no one to help fix this. Is there some way to get some live-time help at Sibelius. I'm 3 days from the end of the "30-Day Trial".

Since yesterday I'm having trouble activating Sibelius. I attempted to activate it on a third computer, and from then on things went wrong. At this moment I cannot get Avid Link to activate Sibelius on any of my four computers, they all tell me that the maximum number of devices has been exceeded. I tried manually deleting files and logging in to Avid Link again (on all computers), and am still getting the same problem.
The UK number isn't working, so I cannot get live support at the moment.

Is there any way of fixing this quickly? I'm about to miss a deadline due to this. I would be happy if Avid could completely reset my devices on their end, then I can manually activate it on the computers I need to have Sibelius running on.

Hi,

Today Sibelius randomly decided it doesn't recognise my activation code anymore. I tried registering it again but it says that I have exceeded the total device count which is impossible as I only have one computer and I didn't change anything.

I don't remember if I ever had an avid account (I purchased Sibelius 7 many years ago) or what details I even entered if I did. So i created a new one just to post here and ask for help. I have my activation ID and System ID and a screenshot of the email that I recieved verifying my eligibility for the educational version.

I'm completely screwed if I don't get access ASAP as I'm in the middle of a paid project with a looming deadline. I don't understand how Sibelius randomly decided that the device count was exceeded. I did nothing at all for that to happen.

Sam, I desperately need some help. Nothing I've been advised to do will open Sibelius. My subscription etc is all paid. I had a message to tell me that it had been paid.Robin has asked me to deactivate it, there is nothing in the avid link to do this.

I don't know why this is happening.

Can someone please give me some link or maybe some number to ring in Australia or overseas maybe for sibelius help?

Hi Sam,

I've attached a screen shot of my Avid account, and everything is paid for September. I've also attached some shots of what happens when I try to activate. It sends a message to activate sibelius or go with Sib first etc. I press 'Activate', it then opens the Avid licence centre, I then press on "Start" as everything appears, right, and I then get the Activate Sibelius message again, with the options to choose Sib first again etc. It then repeats the same thing, and becomes circular in process repeatedly. I hope the screen shots may alert you or someone else to what is possibly going wrong with the activation process.

Hi Stephen,

I've removed the attachments from the thread as they gave away your license.

The license looks good from this end, so it's only a matter of getting past the "Syncing" step that is prohibiting you from activating.

If needs be, click "Enter Manually" and enter your license there. You'll then need to go to www.avid.com/license to manually enter your license details and get an activation .bin file to put back into Link.

I tried ringing support in Australia, but for some reason I didn't get an answer, even though I rang repeatedly so I'm not sure why that happened. I tried ringing about half an hour before they closed, so I'm not sure if the Covid thing has affected them down there with how many they can have in the message place they work in.

Hi,
today I renewed my sibelius ultimate plan.
My license is shown as active in avid link.
However, when I try to start sibelius, it says that it expired and gives me four possibilities. After clicking on renew I shall open avid link. When I do it says my license expired .....
And so on. I suspect that avid link does not work properly on my pc.
Some users in this thread have the same problem. I remember one year ago, it was the same thing. I then deleted a yamaha steinberg driver and then avid link seemed to work properly, but not now.
Any thoughts?

First step:
- shut down Windows, then restart Windows, and wait a few minutes for the system to settle down;
- do not attempt to launch Sibelius;
- open Avid Link by clicking on its icon in the "Show hidden icons" area of the Windows Taskbar;
- in Avid Link, click "Profile", and sign in with your Avid credentials;
- in Avid Link, click "Products"; if there is a message "Synchronizing account" at the top of the Products panel, then stop and wait until that message goes away;
- in Avid Link, tab Products, on the row for Sibelius Ultimate, pull down the menu (from the down-arrow at the right-hand end of the Sibelius row), and select "License";
- in the License panel, check that there is only one license listed: if there is more than one, then report back for more guidance;
- in the license panel, for the license you wish to use, click the down-arrow on the right to display all the license details - check that the expiry date of the Support and Update plan is correct, and so on.

If everything looks in order, now try to launch Sibelius. If that fails with the same messages as before, then quit Sibelius, and return to Avid Link.

- as before, open the Licenses panel for Sibelius, and expand the details for the license currently showing as ACTIVATED.
- click the button DEACTIVATE, and wait for that process to complete;
- in the list of all possible licenses for Sibelius, select the one you wish to use: if its status shows as SYNCING, then report back here for further instructions.
- otherwise, click the down-arrow to expand the license details, and click "USE LICENSE" to re-activate Sibelius. Wait for that process to complete.

Now try launching Sibelius.

I was just typing that part of my problem is, that the icon is missing there (only taskbar - but here without function) - AND THEN IT APPEARED!!!!!!

I recently purchased the Crossgrade to a subscription and am running the latest release of Sibelius (2020.9). I had let my support package lapse for some months before getting the crossgrade, but everything is fine and I am using Sibelius without problems. However, I get several message every day from Avid Link saying that my License renewal has failed so am I worried that this good situation may not last. Is there any action that I need to take?
