I am working on an arrangement and when I start playback, the green bar moves through the piece but there is no sound. Obviously, I've managed to hit a button in error, but I have no idea what I've done or how to fix it. Ideas?...
Please attach screen-shots of the following Sibelius dialogue windows:
1. Playback Devices;
2. Audio Engine Options;
3. Mixer.
Has Sibelius playback sound ever worked?
Does this problem affect just the score you are working on, or all scores? If it affects only one score, then please attach that score as a Sibelius .sib file.
Is this on Mac OS, or on Windows?
Is Sibelius audio output muted at operating system level?

The sound has always worked up until now. It is not playing back on any scores. I am on a Mac.
I am not sure where to find the dialogue windows you are requesting...the only one I found was Mixer.
Don't know how to check if the audio output is muted at operating system level? Other videos, etc are playing audio so don't think it's a system wide issue.
There was no attachment. On this forum, attachments must be (a) of size less than 1 MByte, and (b) of types .sib or .png only, with the filename extension spelled in lower case. Many sub-types of .jpg will not attach, and TIFFs will not attach at all. Please use .png graphics format for screen-shots, and, to keep the size down, take the shot only of the window of interest, not of the whole screen.
To locate Sibelius dialogues, please consult the Sibelius Reference.
"Playback Devices" is reached from ribbon tab "Play" -> "Setup" -> dialog launcher button.
"Audio Engine Options" is reached from a button in the "Playback Devices" dialogue.

Please click the button "Repair" in the dialogue "Audio Engine Options". Then quit Sibelius. Pull down the Apple menu and select "Restart". When the macOS has restarted, do not launch any other application, but do launch Sibelius. In Sibelius, open "Audio Engine Options" and check that the "Repair" button is now greyed out and inactive. Then try Sibelius playback.

If you have Sibelius Preferences -> Other -> "When Sibelius Starts" -> "Play music" checked, can you hear the start-up music when Sibelius is launched?

There is no adjustment or reconfiguration available in Sibelius to make the start-up music play or not play. Failure of the start-up music to play is a serious condition, as it is not Sibelius that plays it, but the operating system: Sibelius simply asks the operating system to play an audio file.
If you create another, different, user account in the Mac OS, then log out of your current account and log in to the newly created account, does Sibelius work there? Does the start-up music play?

I'm not sure you're correct about the start up music. I remember that I was extremely annoyed by the start up music and, it's been awhile back now, but there was an option somewhere for me to turn that off and I did. So again, i don't think it's a Mac problem...I think there is a setting off somewhere in Sibelius. I've obviously managed to hit a button that I didn't intend, I think.
I could be wrong and I'm chatting with Apple to see if they can find anything. So far, nothing. And as they said as well, if I'm not experiencing sound issue with any other program on the computer, it doesn't make sense that it's not internal to Sibelius.
I am trying to set up a phone consultation with AVid, but the process and website is incredibly confusing and obtuse. Something for tomorrow, I think.
In my post at 16:32 yesterday, I specifically asked you to enable the start-up music and then check whether the start-up music plays. There is no point in listening for the music if it has been disabled.
Please try using Sibelius in a different user account.

Sorry...let me be more clear. It was late at night after a long day of work. I set up a user account. When I opened Sibelius, the start up music played. But when I created a score and entered notes, it did not play the pitches as they were entered as it usually has done in the past. It also would not playback the score. I do remember disabling the start up music in my account earlier as it is incredibly disruptive, but after I did that it did not affect the playback or anything else. This is a new problem.
I think since it plays under a user, that once again indicates there is a setting in Sibelius that must be askew. Sure wish I could find it, as I have arranging to do.
I am not expecting the playing of the start-up music to affect the playback of scores in any way. I was asking you to check the playback (or not) of the start-up music to narrow down the area of the problem. If the start-up music does not play, then the problem lies outside Sibelius. If the start-up music plays, but scores do not play back, then the issue might lie with settings within Sibelius.
So, to check that, I asked you to run Sibelius in a different user account, which brings a fresh set of defaults for Sibelius preferences.
You now report that a new score created in the new account does not play back. From what Manuscript Paper was that new score created? Please attach a Sibelius .sib score file created in that new user account which does not play back for you, so that we can check whether the issue is something internal to the score file, or the Manuscript Paper from which it was created.
To narrow down the issue further, does the score play back if you select Playback Configuration "General MIDI (Basic)" instead of "Sibelius 7 Sounds"? Based on the answer to that question, I can make further suggestions for investigation.

Thanks for all the help...but is there a way I can get on the phone with someone and maybe do a screen share to address this issue. It's taking an incredible amount of time and is interruptive to the work I have to do. I would so rather just talk with someone. The website is a little confusing as to how to make this happen.
Bob...I'm not sure the answer to that or how to find out. Sorry...I'm only reasonably "techie", so if it's not something I've interfaced with before, I probably don't know. As is the case with this question...
You already showed the dialog with "core audio selected. All you have to do is use the little up/down arrow to the right of those words to see if there are other choices.
So I encountered a new pop up message and chose "general midi basic"....now suddenly things are playing again. I don't know what happened but choosing this seems to have fixed the problem for now. I knew it was simply some setting somewhere!
May be you are interested in why the gren bar didn`t stop for hours... It usually happens when the number of instruments are more than the working-memory of your comp can cope with! So the only solution is to enlargen the working memory or - as you did - play your music with the rather odd MIDI-sound.
