I am having problems when creating a new score when it comes to, "Key Signature Setup." Sometimes the window where you set the key signature to "major flat keys, "major sharp keys," ...etc is unresponsive. Sometimes it seems very delayed and sometimes I have to just shut down Sibelius and restart the program.
Is anybody else experiencing this problem?
Any ideas what could be causing this?
I am using Sibelius on my iMac with El Capitan 10.11.6.
Thanks,
Norm

My copy of 8.5.1 is very sluggish and unusable. Still haven't found an answer to the problem and Avid is expecting another subscription payment very soon.
This really isn't a general problem with 8.5.1 Adrian. I'm sure whatever the issue is with your particular system can be sorted out. Persist until you find some support that you can work with.
Have you experienced the problem that I am having with regards to my original post?
Thanks,
Norm

I have to say that, after thinking Adrian's issue was a one-off, I am having similar slow downs and slow reactions from 8.5.1 since the last windows 10 update.

I'm thinking that my problem is an incompatibility between Sib8 & Win10. My 7.1.3 works perfectly in Win10. I'd really like to find an answer to this problem otherwise continuing with my Sib subscription will simply be throwing money down the drain. I've gained nothing since my last subscription payment. Some weeks ago, Sam promised on this forum to look into my problem, but I've so far had no contact from Avid.
I have Win 10 pro and 8.5.1. works fine. Never had an issue with it after installing all windows 10 updates. Have you checked your driver if all of them are up to date? Some drivers cause problems with Sib 8 working incorrectly.

OK. I've had a few computers in that have gone generally sluggish after a recent Windows 10 update (but not particularly after the initial upgrade from Windows 8. I think a laptop designed for Windows 7 is generally best left there.) Mostly laptops. Some, I suspect, which have hardware devices not fully supported by the drivers distributed in Windows 10. But alternative drivers can often be found.
I've been rather surprised to come across some desktop computers (Dell? can't remember) considered eligible for Windows 10, that have lost their CD/DVD drives after the upgrade. But with an external USB drive costing around £20, life's too short for extended investigation.
Might be worth reminding this forum that your old MIDI interface (like my Roland UM-3EX) WILL run under Windows 10. You just need to edit one line in one of the installer .ini files. Only very elementary rocket science :-)
Adrian - go to Device Manager and disable all audio devices. Don't worry, it's easily reversible. Now, restart the computer. Open Sibelius. It will complain it can't find any audio devices, but should still run. Open a score and do some editing. Still sluggish?
I'm too fainthearted, Laurence, to try anything that technical w'out having someone with me who knows what they're doing. I'm pretty sure my son has already tried it. I'll ask him. But thanx for the suggestion. And what does it mean if the sluggishness disappears w'out any audio devices? After all, 7.1.3 isn't complaining.
It means that the problem is in the way Sibelius interacts with the computer's audio system. This narrows the field for investigation a great deal.
I'm also wondering if, when installing Sibelius 8, you tried to retain custom settings from the earlier version. A full clean-out may be in order, even if it does mean you having to recreate shortcuts etc. This can be done without affecting the Sibelius 7.1.3 setup. It's a matter of erasing some support files and Registry entries that apply only to Sibelius 8.
I think my original post ended up getting off topic.
Still experiencing weird sluggish behaviour when assigning key signature, and also I have noticed that when initially telling Sibelius that there is a pick-up bar, this is real sluggish and often I have to restart Sibelius to get it to work.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
I'm on a Mac.
Thanks,
Norm
