Problems in opening with Sib 7.1 and 8.5
Posted by Tony Wakefield - 25 Apr 11:30AM
I`ve just completed an arr using 8, but when I come to open it again to print it only seems to want to open in 7.1. Then when I try to open the parts to print, it doesn`t print, but a window appears which tells that a newer version of Sib is required. The info in the window on screen recommends the update to 7.x.x which I don`t have. I try to open it in 8 but this window reappears. I`m flaming flumuxed to say the least.

Presumably you are trying to open the score by double-clicking the icon for the score file in Windows Explorer, and Windows has associated the .sib file extension with the Sibelius 7.1.3 application, so Sibelius 7.1.3 is opening.

So do not do that. Open Sibelius 8 from the Windows Start menu (in Start menu folder Avid), then use the "Open" feature of Sibelius 8 itself to open the score file that you want.

Thanks Robin, this works, tho` I`ve never thought to open sib before in this way, and everything seemed to work. Wonder if there`s some change in the way 8 needs to open, which is different to 6, & 7.1, & 7.5.
Thank you.

Roll on death . . . . . . It seems these days that I`m taking longer to process my score/parts than it takes to write the thing.

Please relay this to Avid and make the remark "Avid your way chums!"
Geddit?

No, it is just the way that you have Windows configured. If you want a particular version of Sibelius to open in response to double-clicking a Sibelius score file in Windows, then you have to configure that to happen.

To make it happen the way that you prefer, first launch the version of Sibelius that you prefer from the Start Menu. Then, in Sibelius, go to File -> Preferences -> Files -> Repair File Associations -> click "Repair".

After you have done that, your preference will stick.

Sorry Sir - shall I go and stand in the corner?

Just got back from the `orspital. Am told I have to go in for two ops (both local - both on me `ead) for (she said) cancer. "We`ll soon get rid of those" she said. She asked me if I wanted to take off my clothing for her to examine other parts of my body, but I declined - it`s in the best of one 26th of a marathon health. So I`m still `ere - just `ad me coffee, bold as brass. Get two scores off to the Kingston band, then sink a nice bottle of Merlot this eve`nin` with `er indoors.
