Sib. 6.x: Dal Segno and Coda symbols not working in playback
Posted by Lawrence Spector - 20 Apr 10:16PM
Hello,
Please help me with making the Dal Segno and Coda symbols work in playback mode. See attached file. I thought I was following directions from the manual.
Thank you,
Lawrence

Just to clarify, the signs work except the last one which goes to the Coda. Here is a new file attached.
Thank you,
Lawrence

Your coda jump is working perfectly - to the Coda sign which you have placed immediately after the words 'To Coda'! Move it to the beginning of the actual Coda and all will be well.

I'm slightly surprised that the $ after bar 98 isn't also causing trouble. There should officially be just one 'D.S. al Coda' instruction and one '$' for it to jump to. But you seem to have got away with that one.

We could argue whether a D.S. al Coda is necessary or helpful at all when it only saves writing out 15 bars of music...

Thanks again, Laurence. You saved the day! In guitar two it asks for Pizz. which is not sounding. I will post a separate thread for that.

I'm not at all surprised that a general-purpose sound library such as Sibelius Sounds doesn't know what to do when told to play a guitar 'Pizz.'! If it's stopping the sound altogether, I suggest you turn off playback for the word using the Play on Pass function and settle for a normal guitar sound. Presumably a live guitarist would know what to do?

Thank you, Laurence! These files are for the purpose of making audio recordings for a children's guitar school so that the students can hear an audio/ MIDI simulation. They have the scores. The audio/MIDI file is what the teacher wants.
Tasto and ponticello are written in the score but do not sound.
Do you have a solution for this? It would be greatly appreciated. I am not a sophisticated Sibelius user. I looked up Play on Pass but don't know how to implement it to play pizz., ord. tasto, ponticello.
Thanks again for your help.

I've written classical guitar music in Sibelius.

Sibelius 6 comes with quite a nice nylon string sound (complete with fingerboard sliding sounds which you can reduce to taste in the Mixer). It will play harmonics, but will ignore tasto, ponticello, ord. (because there's nothing to "ord.") and pizz (étouffé).

I remember quite a while back I saw a classical guitar sound library that could be purchased rather inexpensively. I think there was a soundset for Sibelius 6, or it was already compatible.

So Google around or maybe someone here knows?

That's what you need if you want more special effects colours and better audio output. You need to purchase a specialist classical guitar sound library that is (or can be made) compatible with Sibelius 6. Sibelius Sounds can't be all things to all people.

It seems you may have promised this guitar teacher something he can't have, at least not with any standard Sibelius resources.

You could investigate specialist sound libraries, such as this one:

https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Plucked_Instruments/Concert_Guitar#!Sample_Content

But note that there doesn't seem to be a Sound Set that links it with Sibelius - it won't understand the technique instructions written in a Sibelius score. You'll have to write a Sound Set, or manually add control messages or keyswitch notes. Fiddly, but not impossible.

Is this project important enough to you to start explaining what all that gobbledygook means? :-)

Here's one http://www.musesamples.com/

In the "User Area" section dedicated to Sibelius users it says:

"Just load the plugin as your play device of choice. Of course the plugin has to be visible for Sibelius in the specific VST folder.

Use the expression tool (Ctr+E) for changing patches: ~C1,value
For example ~C1,0 for the basic patch"
